throw/shoot balls

I have a hard time believing that the same effect will be had with the dimples when throwing it by hand or even out of the big shot as a golf ball coming off a driver at twice the speed? Besides, I manage to hit every tree on the course when I play and the point of setting a line is to MISS the branches!

Lol....that game drove me to drink (wasn't a long drive tho).

Seems like that ball would really do some twig twirling/sticking and crotch sticking arrrg.

Yup....won't make a difference

Sweet! Will we need caddies to carry our clubs...polite golf claps when the line is isolated?

Maybe we can start hanging windmill and clown-face targets in trees for the throwline events at TCC's

hole in one crotch!

Maybe an adapted golf bag with different sized big shot configurations, and argyle pattern climbing helmets. Get Arborwear to start making some day-glo solid color and herringbone pattern tech pants too!

I don't know Tom, I'm not a golfer. (I always figured it was a substitute activity for people who didn't know how to fish.)

Perhaps it just draws a demographic whose moms dress them funny.

Anybody try or see the new throw balls in Sherrill said to be out in May?

Seems like those things would bounce like mad when you hit a limb. Isn't the whole idea of a soft bag that it dampens deflection? Also, like the way a soft bag can squeeze though tight spots (to a point) when you're isolating. The round ball looks like high percentage hang up.

For a max pull on a slingshot I can see the ball going straighter. When I position the throwbag in the pouch I try and orient it so the ring end is flat (horizontal) instead of vertical. With vertical bag orientation there's more potential for error to either side, I'd rather the aiming error be up and down not side-to-side if that makes sense!

The other question is will the dimpled ball go higher than same weight throwbag? That could be very useful in certain situations.

The dimples will work. I really want to try it. I think it could def minimize the "wiggle" factor when its released and will fly slightly farther.

Myth busters covered a car in dimples and there was noticeable less drag thus would get greater fuel mileage. I forget how fast the car was traveling but presumably a throw bag comes out of the hand at about 40+ mph. So yeah def think it will make a difference. I'll be a test dummy, someone buy me one.

Countryboy - I will see what I can do - do you want yours to say titleist or Nike? Seriously though, if I could get you one to try I would.

Lol, thanks! Your a pal. I just wonder if they are supposed to be such a help for the big shot. Which i think they will be why aren't they making an 6-8 oz? That makes no sense to me.

I forgot to add, i'll have to see it to believe it that it doesn't bounce like crazy off limbs.

Also i was thinking about it more, a softball pitcher can throw what like 60mph, this is a weight on a string, we should be able to hit speeds closer to 100. That would be an interesting thing to find out. *Side note*

It says it's filled with steel, I would imagine it acts a lot like a dead blow hammer. My guess is bouncing would be minimal, it's just that it still seems the dimple factor isn't as big a deal as they make it sound.

Found the Myth busters episode, skip to 40 min in.

Dimpled effect

Car was driven at a constant 65mph, i think the throw bag flies at least that fast. Should have an effect. Only one way to find out right! Lets try it!!!

Steel over Lead(Pb) is real good news imo.
I hear you about the dimples working, but how come other projectiles and high speed vehicles do not have dimples.

Mb it is to a maximum speed, say around 65 mph and speeds greater than that it is less of a factor?

Interesting.

You really think a steel filled ball will have minimal bounce compared to a soft throwbag? (rhetorical question) :-)
