I got some of those numbers mixed up but I looked into it in better detail. The average price of a house is just under 200K in AUSTIN, in Texas it's closer to 150K.
The average salary in Austin is higher than the state average but it's still just under 40K. Higher but still a long way off from 250k. I do have family in MA and CT and I am aware that you've got to make big bucks to afford a decent house to raise a family up there. Apart from the West Coast though the rest of the country deals with way smaller numbers than you guys do.
