the state of the industry

I sorry if I offended you with my comment and I probably should have given more detail. You have to realize prices are widely different throughout our country and can be very different within a county for that matter. Where I used to work in VT yes 750... Probably 550 would have gotten that tree down. And there would be cowboy hats all round. Here in PA clients are different, commuting is different, everything is different... And more expensive. Congratulations on having a bucket truck I envy you (well not really), I would have to be on that tree with a crane. Minimum 4 hrs so the absolute best I could do is 1200. And I'm not one to rush a job to make a couple bucks (no cowboy hats here). There are many ways to run a business and I choose safety and providing my client with a high quality arboriculture experience. If that means it takes me longer and costs them more so be it. If they don't like my price they can get someone else. I have work lined up till June and the phone is still ringing, no loss to me. Most wait, due to referrals.
You did not offend me. Sorry it came across that way. Reread it with me speaking calmly. No doubt, I understand everything you wrote. Peace. Now go get ready for work!

I think we've all made the same point. An uninformed homeowner thinking he could get a better deal ends up paying as much as he would've hiring a reputable firm. A firm that would've completed the whole job leaving him nothing to deal with, no damage, no danger, no worries.

Dumb as a bag of hammers....

So many home owners would think all that's normal.
Maybe even great.

I don't know how many people tell me, "they had no idea", or" I could not have imagined". The average person is really dumb these days. Most people don't even understand how an engine in their car works, I still get away with the "flux capacitor is broke".
The person that doesn't understand how an engine works, may be a world class musician that has the ability to speak to people through their own talents. Does this make another dumb? Or do we all possess something different from one another that make us a working whole?

I know that may not be exactly the point you were making and I get that, but I can't resist pointing out what I believe to be important.

Ignorant...dumb, same boat, not their fault. Lack of exposure to things in life.
I'm dumb when it comes to things I have not fully under stood.
The general home owner though is really ignorant these days...as clearly proven by what they buy and talk about...they are mostly brainwashed by TV. I call them "sheeple". Tv's, and now devices have replaced much of the human experience, the human experience is how we gain insight on our environment and the things in it we rely upon, like cars. More people would rather watch a show about drama/reality crap then how an automobile engine works. That's dumb!

I had a primary school teacher who explained it...she said," I might be dumb, but I'm not stupid." Stupid is crossing the line when you are ignorant on a subject.
I do not look down on dumb people. Stupid people I try not to look at.
