I just have to tell you guys about a new "tool" that we are using at work. We have nicknamed it the pamperline because it really pampers the ground crew. I had an old trampoline that was off the frame and I noticed how durable it was for dragging brush, leaves, and anything else I was raking up. So I brought it to work on a job where we were removing dead wood from dozens of mature douglas fir trees. Douglas fir trees have a lot of limbs that die because of lack of light. They are usually very dry and brittle and basically chip themselves when they hit the ground. Not very much fun for the ground crew to say the least. That is where the pamperline comes in handy.
We lay it out under the tree being climbed, prune the tree and throw the dead limbs on it. Then if the whole mess of limbs and broken pieces isn't too heavy, the ground crew just folds it and drags it to the chipper. It is so durable that I never worry about throwing anything on it no matter how high I am in the tree. Since it is a big 16 foot circle of fabric it is a pretty easy target to hit as well.
For you crane guys one of these with a rope installed through all of the loops would make a nice drawcord bag for lifting the last mess of brush out of backyards. You can get your pamperline for free! Or close to it. Go on your local Craigslist and enter the word "trampoline" in the search engine. I usually come up with dozens of cheap and occasionally free trampolines that people just want hauled off. You just haul it away, recycle the steel, and give your ground crew their new Christmas present!
If I see this in the next Sherrill catalog going for $500 I'm going to be pretty pissed. Enjoy the pamperline!
