The Lies of Workers Comp and Illegal Aliens.......

HEY GUYS,

The thread for free estimates his here.

Back on topic of "the lies of workers comp and illegal aliens....?

Anyone care to comment???

Everyone seems to self-righteously spout off how someone else is wrong when they don't use saftey gear.

However, it seems that there is a VERY DISTINCT LACK of self-righteousness on this subject of work comp and illegals?

Did anyone else notice the lack of comments?

Is anyone having a reluctance to comment for fear of "going on record"?

We do not do "free estimates." $25 for every estimate, no matter how close or far away it is. We take that $25 off the price of the job if we get it. It is working - we are getting the kind of customers that we want. Customers that appreciate the knowledge, experience and expense to run a business. Good Luck!!

I am really liking this tactic...because the knowledge that we continue to gain is not free (ISA and TCIA Conferences)

Hey DanielSon
I will comment however I don't know all the technical stuff of workers comp and the such. But it is completely unfair to have illegals in this country taking jobs from hard working citizens like ourselves.

This week there was an article on Yahoo about a Germany leader saying that "there is no place for outsiders in our country" They were talking about people entering their country and not following local customs. Of course there is a huge backlash but sometimes I wish our country was more radical because I hear stories about how happy my Great Great grandpa was when he could finally speak and write in english. Those days are far two gone unfortunately.

The minority rules in this country and it pisses me off.

i obviously know nothing about software, just seems there is no way it could be as cool as climbing. Then again, i am single with no wife or kids, so climbing pays my bills easily. come to think about it, i probably havent made any babies because i don't want to stress about feeding them with a climbers pay.

I used to LOVE climbing. I mean REALLY love it. Every part. Even the dangerous parts.

And I SWORE that I would NEVER be "that" guy who lost his edge and slowed down.

176mph on my yamaha r1 in the middle of the night.

Street raced my cbrf3

23 skydives

35 foot cliffs on my snowboard

vert skating

Cutting BIG TOPS http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HRILH4mNjIo

And then....... I had kids.

When you have nothing to lose, the risk actually pushes you.

Once I had the kids, it seemed like EVERY top that I hung, I would be thinking of them in the back of my mind.

I'll go on record. We carry workers comp and have since we started this business. We only hire legal workers and always will.

Now what everyone else does?..... I don't concern myself with things which are out of my control.

Daniel, It seems like your rant is based on an assumption. Nowhere in your post did you claim any fact about their legal status, alien, business, or otherwise. I'm not an advocate for illegal business practices by any means. I am, however, an advocate for not passing judgment on individuals without facts in hand.

Banjo,

I would venture to guess that a MAXIMUM of 10% of the employed climbers in Atlanta are legal to work in the USA....

It is not an assumption when on average you see 4 other tree services crews on the road a day, and usually of the 4 crews (of 3 each) you will only see 2 white guys. All the other 10 are hispanic.

Are they legal? well..... some are. I would guess about 10% of the ones I have met are legal.

However, 90 are not.

I appreciate that you would feel that I am basing this rant on assumption, but in fact, it is from actual experience. (talking with the guys, hearing their stories, etc....)

Rocks_and_Trees----- (Smile) well, you know the deal. you have seen the Atlanta market.

I would highly suspect that the companies in Atlanta would be less likely to go on record like you did.

How about it anyone? Any Atlanta tree services want to go on record talking about how you pay your comp and hire legal employees ONLY?????

Hey,,,,, what is that I hear?????? Ohh... just crickets....

That is what I thought.....

So is this because it is not illegal enough to deter anyone? At what point do you say screw it, if noone else is playing by the rules that no one is enforcing why should you? Here in Michigan we have people leaving the state in droves. I think that an influx of willing workers would be a welcome sign. Now, we have a lot of unemployed auto workers with chainsaws offering their hack services for nothing. But, can they prune a tree and make it look good? i have almost no competition in that regard. Anyone can make a tree disapear, but can they make it look good? Now I just need some people with some money who want their trees to look good and aren't about to lose their house to forclosure.

People in nice houses and cars are asking to make payments on a $200 bill. Sad.

As for hiring illegal "aliens" I fundamentally dont really believe in the concept of borders and countries. I believe as humans we should have the right to go anywhere in the world and work if we are able and willing. Being a qualified good person is more important than where one happens to have been born.

Correct... No authorities do anything about it. If they did, who would cut their grass and trees? Seriously. If you came down here, you would see.

Well,,,,, I like to play by the rules. It makes me mad that I literally can't afford to be legit.

If you were down here you would see.

I've been too legit to quit since the start. Even got the mostly useless education for removal work. No illegals here but a crazy amount of pro/am parttimers. We are experiencing a boom economy here for now and there are a ton of new tree servicers. Why???
Can't get a roofer, carpenter or plumber etc. The ones around are rolling in new trucks and all the trimmings. Why so many new tree guys, none of us making it?

I disagree, you are assuming that non-white equals illegal. What if the brown skin peoples were third generation Americans and the white dudes were illegals from Poland or Ireland? Being American doesn't mean you become more white with time.

I assume, I would venture to guess, and I guess, in the context which you used them, all support what I'm saying about a lack of evidence before you passed judgment.

Well, I did respond and I have no illegal's working for me (18 legal emps) nor do I sidestep paying comp. It seems thats not what you want to hear but there it is. I'm not the only one here in the ATL either but....as I said I feel your pain and wish you the best with whatever your decision may be. I don't work much in Roswell but we have had a great year and 1/3rd of our work is in Atlanta. Good luck!
