Curious, because I also live on an island, is there any good sized wood waste recycling outfit by you? I’ve been (somehow?) able to convince more and more people to recycle materials back into their property rather than haul away. However, there’s a very large nursery here that will take material in for a fee, but the fee keeps rising.

Are you asking about chips? Or grinders?
We have at least two ‘top soil’ yards while I primarily only know one well and just pick up mushroom compost at the other. The one I go to is cheap for dumping brush or wood, they are trying to get a firewood thing going and claimed they would buy good logs. Either it’s not up and running yet, or the wood I do occasionally bring is stuff they don’t want (species, size, etc)..
They sell gravel, rock, compost, and soil blends..
they take chips for free but I only dump there when it’s convenient as I have a chip list a mile long and sell loads for $150. Admittedly I only dump chips there when it’s something nasty like a really seedy black loctus or English holly.

@evo, I stay booked and busy all the time, but could possibly travel for emergency work.

We only had minor impact, from what I've seen. No trees on houses.

Up in my area we had a little wind, but no significant impacts really. One tree on a house I've seen, but I haven't even gotten a single wind related call.

Gotcha. The one here is a bit overwhelmed lately. I’ve heard of others that are charging exorbitant amounts of dollars to dump anything. Luckily I’m like you, and feed a number of smaller entities with chips and firewood. All other usable logs go to my mill.

It is! But…It doesn’t always have to be 15’ x 15’ though. In this photo, you can see it’s more like 15’ x 12’ or so. With the counterweight slid back but not fully opened, I had 87% capacity over the outriggers quadrant near the house, toward the tree I was in, and towards the street. If I had slewed over the fence, it would have been a very low capacity. Each outrigger has 5 angle positions to choose from. If they’re all in the middle hole (45 degrees off the frame), it’s a full chart all around, and that would be 15’ x 15’. In this photo, I was still able to pick between 500 lbs on up to about 1,000 lbs if memory serves me.

Here is the stump cut on the way to the street. You can see that one of the outrigger feet was actually in the storage area beneath the porch. The gent who subbed me in is so kindly packing up slings.

Do you reckon the C10 can be put on a truck like some of the spider lifts? The outriggers look a bit different, maybe it doesn't lift as high?

I have mine on a hooklift now, so yes, but very unlikely you could back under it like my old setup with the spider lift on the Peterbilt.

Here's oceans haul deck for the c10 from his hook lift truck, which is a 650 I believe chassis newer ford, its got a chip box as well he can swap to. He lowers the hook lift to ground leaveing hooked , sets 2 small aluminum ramps for tracking off deck onto ground... or thats how he did when i visited , but he evolves quickly, so who knows with that genius now... ; ) I have more pictures but didn't wanna take away all his fun, just figure I'd give you something to dream about oasis! Oceans is probably busy fabricating something super slick right now so he's indisposed momentarily lol

I’ve been thinking of getting a spiderlift in a year or two if our company keeps growing but this thing sure is a tempting alternative.

Well I use a nifty SD64, and we do a fair bit of crane work with a 40ton Terex stick boom. I am not purchasing this to replace the crane on big jobs, but to streamline alot of our smaller jobs where it doesnt make sense to get the big crane in, and reduce or eliminate our rigging. Also we have a sawmill, and this smaller crane will allow us to get log length pieces out of the bigger trees in small backyards, where normally we would have to cut them up to size them for the mini-skid. Also because we work a lake market, there is a fair number of trees that there is no way to set up a big crane close enough to get them out.

You’re singing my somg to the T! I ised to run an Alaskan to slab material out of back yards, but now it’s the Spider Crane for the win. Once the C10 came, I knew I had to convert my Peterbilt 330 from carrying the Spider Lift to a log truck. Then the modded WoodMizer LT40 came, set to widen out to a full 57” throat. Then a 5 ton class mini excavator to bolster the 2.5 ton we already had. One day I’ll make an equipment thread. I truly think they have to be complementary to each other as possible and I’m finally dialing that in with all smaller, under CDL kit.
