this is about two months of use here... any not every day.

I don't see anything wrong with that jp, just a little wear.
The center is just the bury peeking out.
I've been using that hitch for a few years and find that the friction gives out with use.
I started out with a 3/2 Distel when new, had to go to 4/1 and now 4/2 won't hold so they are retired.

Yeah mine looks more worn that, and i am not afraid to climb on it, the tenex, well atleast mine has a deep bury, scared me until i figured out what it was.

I agree. If those tufts are just bits of the buried core sticking out then you are still good to go.
