Teaching pruning, just plain teaching

Nice to see your guy get it (guy with beard) (my son holding rake handle up). I taught him (bearded guy) pruning increments over the years, about 5 til his new wife had him quit I think, then on this tree on the property my wife grew up on...I explained what I wanted as a result and pretty much let him have at it.

This tree for at least 50 years I know of, has been one which graduation, wedding, birthday, prom, homecoming etc etc pictures are taken by the community at large with permission on the bottom limb.

It had gone into neglect with the large limb detaching and tearing to settle on the ground and with weeds growing up all thru it and we wacked them down. Then he did this pruning which I was very proud of him to be able to handle with much artistry in my opinion.

I have taught many climbers, pruners, takedown..uh..ers. Nice to see one get it once in a while. An old vid but one of my faves.

Is that a catalpa treevet? Never seen one that size over here in VA. Beautiful tree!

That tree just glows with warmth for the community Reg. Great to hear from you buddy.
That's great Dave. We should cherish such veterans while we can.

I try hard to teach guys to study the form and density of a tree before they reducation-prune especially. Many of them of them approach the work like it's a shrub....resulting in almost every branch being cut in outer canopy. So you're now left with all these abrupt ends cut to a little bit of side growth. Congested and un natural looking to say the least. I ask them how they expect it will look with no leaves....they just sort of shrug. I have a guy helping now who I have hope for at least. He wants to get better. Not a take down guy. Prefers to think about sustainability of what we have. It's refreshing actually.
