TCIA Expo Highlights

My highlight was speaking with Gerry B. At the opening reception. A living legend who takes the time to speak with anyone, even myself.

I also enjoyed the student skills competition. If I have any critique of tcia expo, it would be that they don't put a lot of emphasis on that competition. Young people interested in this industry should be held in higher regard.

The Expo floor was amazing. The largest I have ever seen. It was like a family reunion seeing all of my tree friends from around the world.

My highlight would have had to been competing. It was a lot of fun and met some other treebuzzers that are students. Wish I would have met up with you easyphloem. Would have been nice to talk. It was my second time competing at this comp. I think they do a good job with the student comp. I still like our chapter comp however...no written exam needs to be taken.

That's what hurt me in the overall.

I also liked seeing the pinto pulley.

Not attending Expo would leave a black hole in my year. It's learning, teaching, social and family all rolled into one trip.

Seeing Denny Moorehouse again after three years, spending time with Reg who was under the weather, missing out on talking with Charley Pottoroff and Jerry Beranek, even though I saw them across the floor, getting help from Chris Girard at the SRT tree demo, seeing Kevin Bingham wow the SRT demo group with the Rope Wrench...whew...I'm outa breath! There's so much more!

So much more too...I learned that even though I'm not selling my work to clients like when I was a commercial arbo [which, at heart, I will always be] I have to sell the value of my service to the university and other stake holders. That insight came from a talk by John Spence.

The count-down to Hartford 2011 has started!

Tom are you allowed to attend TCIA if you are not a member, or your company is not a member? they offer some great classes but i did not know if i could attend. i am a certified arborist but my company does not belong to TCIA. I WOULD LOVE TO GO TO THESE.

Nope you do not have to be. I went as a student. But they will take anyone that will pay

As a student and a first-year arborist, seeing so many talented and intelligent arborists sharing and showing such great interest in the field really inspired me a lot.

I took a ton of information out of the demos at the demo tree.

Thanks to everyone who made it happen.

Seeing Denny M. was awesome and also Jared was there from the west coast, Mark C. demo at the Stihl spot was killer and Reg over at Stein. The expo was a steller time. The only thing was a couple of well known vendors were not selling any goods directly at the show you ordered and the shipped.

Starlet, it's in CT next year, y'all come! $35 gets you on the tadeshow floor which I agree this year was outstanding. But $199 gets your company a year's membership, half price for newbies. It's a great deal; comes with all the standards and a bunch of great biz info. Highly recommended.

I bought an air/water knife, books, hand pruners, pole tools, etc. etc.

We had a great turnout for the ANSI spec-writing session. :)

Lee Gilman and Shawn Bernick's subjects expanded the arborist's role into woodlands and shrubs, very cool stuff. But meeting friends old and new was as always the highlight.

Good times, Seeing old friends definitely my Highlight. The legends Gerry B, Charly P, Greg G, Mark not in the Dark, Duane N, Scott P, met Reg C for the 1st time.

Steve Z seen you for a sec then zip you were gone? Trevor you didn't make it? Good seeing all my Branch Manager Customers thanks for all the compliments, made a few more biz friends finally met the voice - Dave at new river. Big Show, great convention center, Spot Gerry B, Mark on a Rope, and Cory the LWalker on the Pic.

meeting Single Jack, TreeMachine, and others who I have talked to for years on these forums but never seen their face. really great.

As people have mentioned, there was so much to see and do that it was hard to cover everything. Highlights for me, were finally meeting my friend Reg Coates, helping Tom D. out with his SRT Demo at the tree, speaking with Jerry B. and Greg Good again, attending Todd Kramer’s presentations, speaking with and watching World Champion Mark Chisholm climb, and meeting new people. It was also especially nice, that I was able to have my family come along and that I got a chance to see my good friend Tim Walsh again, who has moved from NH to PA this past year.

One thing that I did, and that I think would be a great idea was to have my TreeBuzz avatar with my name on it, so others could see and meet me. I made one up and wore it around my neck while I was down there. Had many people comment on it. Maybe I looked like a geek, but who cares? I met some wonderful people.

TCIA did a fabulous job putting on this annual event. The time and effort that they put in must be tremendous. I am fortunate that their cooperate headquarters in Londonderry NH, is just a short drive from my home. They always make me feel like family when I’m in their area and I just pop in for a visit.

Like Tom D. said, the countdown to Hartford CT has begun. Yes, I will be wearing my avatar badge, so if you old and young Buzzers see me, please stop me and introduce yourselves. I would love to meet you

thanks Guy i will be there when it is in CT. can not wait, hopefully i will finally meet some of you guys. you said you bought an air/water knife? is that the air knife? let me know.

So who went?

What did you love about?

What didn't you like?

What cool new stuff did you see that you liked the most?

Trev

Great venue,

Organization,

People,

A warm and friendly atmosphere.

The food available was nasty though.

I didn't get to see any new stuff because I was obliged to stay at the booth....Apart from Kevin's Rope Wrench.

You should go next year if thats possible.

Agreed. I didn't even realize that was going on. I would have been there if I knew!

My highlights were cruising Pittsburgh with the Peddling Cobras (find them on facebook... if you dare) and meeting the TreeMachine! Like you said Jim, "I've known you for years!" Maybe next time we go out for beers we can each get a chair at the same time.

I forgot to add that I saw my Paul Smiths College classmate Beth and her husband Patrick. They own Heritage tree service in Burlington Vermont.

Good times.

Dam looks like I missed a good expo. I had planned on going but things changed last minute. Defiantly going to New England grows though, and looking forward to TCIA expo in Hartford next year.
