Tall Tulip

The new tallest tulip tree in the north east was just measured. It came in at 163.3'. Right nearby, a red oak at 143.2'. Both forest trees in SE PA.

I'm sure I heard that guy Van Pelt measured a Tulip over 170ft somehwere in the back of beyond, near where they filmed the Blair Witch Project or something like that.

though a tulip over 170' is very impressive. And I'd love to see it. But that would mean I'd have to go South East.

Cool stuff, I'm surprised there are no taller ones left. I'm sure if they were forest grown in the PNW they would reach that height fairly quickly. I cut one down in Vancouver 6' low stump cut and it was just around 70 years old.

Long Wood Gardens what a beautiful place.

Back in 1990 when I got my start into the green industry, I worked for Davey and we worked at the old Dupont estate Whinather Gardens?(sp. near Pa/Delaware line). There's a TALL Tulip way in the back could be taller. It was taller an larger than any other Popler there.

What beautful area.

I actually just saw that big tulip at Winterthur. That is a truly awesome tree. It was rumored that that tree was 180'. Apparently it is actually only around 140'.
Although the height champ is taller, the tree at Winterthur is more impressive.

The Winterthur estate has some huge tulips. I climbed a few of them last winter. I bet they approach 160.

They definitely have loads of tall poplars.
