Some clips from the summer. Taken from jobs quite typical of are.....the sort of work you'd expect day-to-day.

The timing seems a little off what with Davids (xman) thread running concurrently....but, whatever, it doesnt matter. The editing is pretty basic, and there is no theme. Thats my level. A guy cutting trees down wishing he was doing something else. I did add some music to help it flow better, I usually do. Dont feel like you have to hit the like/dislike button, or comment even..But know that if you need a tree cutting down fast, I'll do you a good job. Thanks

That much is always clear. Your vids show the work side really well. Silky smooth yet really simple rigs. Perfect cuts. I started in this work 22 years ago droppings tops out of tall straight pines and cedars in upper Michigan for loggers. Makes me wax nostalgic to see those trees you're fortunate enough to find in abundance out your way.

If I may be so bold, what is it you'd rather be doing when you're crushing those jobs?

Victoria gets a lot of tourists, as does Vancouver Island on a whole. Ferry's and cruise ships full of U.S visitors roll in every weekend over the summer. The Harbour area is always a wash with activity....like, market booths selling art and stuff, musicians, street performers, food stalls etc. It not a huge area, but its a nice relaxed atmosphere. Id like to have a booth down there, selling something, I dont know what. But I'd be quite content to just stay there, chatting with the Americans or whoever, and take a long break from killing trees every day. Thanks John.

I don't know Reg, you must have some love for tree work.. Why would you take the time to make this videos other wise? Surely you are not doing it for advertising or youtube royalties? Making stuff and selling it it cool and all but you'd get sick of the yank tourists perdy damn quick. Good video, and nice seeing some one who is taking small tops. Around here climbers get spooked in little wood, and will squeeze in a large top in a small space.

I get lots of mail from people who watch, subscribers etc. Lots of people, especially new climbers say they learn stuff....never really looked at it that way, or tried to imagine it through their eyes, but whatever, cool. I meet people at the trade shows too that say the same thing, lots of people. So seems as its not too much messing about with cameras and stuff, then I'll keep doing it for as long as I can make the time. But thats not to suggest because I make videos of myself that Im conceited or anything. Its just a job. It gets old like any other. Would be nice to do something else for part of the year at least.

Do it then, you have been talking about it for a while now.. I'm sure you can do with out working in the winters in the PNW. Yes, this is just a job, but you can enjoy your job. I understand being burnt out, needing a break, or just changing it up. I just have a hard time believing that it's just a job for you when you put such passion in how you work. People do not get the skill level you have who work like it's just a job. Flipping burgers us just a job, as I'm sure any of us would do if we needed to keep food on the table.
I watch you videos, you do a good job educating and presenting yourself. You haven't come across as conceited, or close to that. Often times while trying to explain to people what I do I will just refer them to a video, makes it more clear. I did this with an insurance agent trying to get the point across when the GL she emailed me restricted pruning to 15' "Is this going to be a problem?" This is after I spoke to her on the phone for half and hour describing what I do. I just emailed her a video link and said this is what I do, I need insurance for this.

I have experience and ability, plus I'm a harder worker by nature. If I were flipping burgers I'd still work hard at it. Passion is something else....that's what the rec and comp climbers have. They do it for free, which prove the point. I wouldn't climb a tree without getting paid. I'll jump ships when I'm in a position to do so. That can't be for a while yet though. Thanks

I highly recommend breaks. I took one 7yrs ago and during it became an arborist. Before that I went art school for 7yrs. It really helps keep loving what you do fresh. Things happen during breaks that I would never expect. I maintained my business throughout but have made less and less money since 95. But still have increased my assets and am looking at a brighter and brighter retirement. Live a little and things will come.

There's no need for that. Really.
Sounds like you need a break.

Maybe break your wrist and spend time with your family 24/7,living off insurance that just pays bills, trying to help your wife with your kids, but realising that even changing your kid will set you back in recovery, so best thing is to watch your wife do everything, while you curse ever doing this shit fucking cunt job but at same time cursing your neighbor for hiring a tree company that starts at730am but then being very critical of their collar cuts, site set up and clean up and the fact I could do so much better.......
