successful glide modifications

At Pittsburgh Bishop had some prussic cord that was brand new. The sheath is heat resistant so that it doesn't wear out as fast. I forget who makes it. I will try to remember to look tomorrow when I get in to work. I have been using it since the convention and I like the performance really well. I used to use ultra tek but it wears out really quickly and I don't like the maroon stuff as well as the white ultra tek. So far I like this new stuff really well. Mark told me about it maybe he can tell everyone what it is before I can tomorrow

You've got it Brian!

It's got a sheath made out of Nomex and Technora. The core is Vectran. It breaks at over 5K# at 8mm. I have 10mm too and find that, like Rock said, 8mm bites hard for me. The 10mm is a little stiffer, but it is very duable. I'm trying to get them to make the 10 a little softer like the 8.

Regarding saddle mods...I have a three on my Master II saddle that I think are worth sharing. First is the bridge I put on my saddle. Here's a picture of one that I did to my coworkers saddle.

Second, like Kathy mentioned about the buckles on her Glide, the Master's waist buckles are "self adjusting." After climbing around for half an hour, the waist would just get longer and longer. I've put velcro on the straps. Now I snug it up, then velcro the straps down. No more self adjusting!

The third big mod that I did, and I think this might be my favorite one, is the leg straps. The leg straps were also alway "self adjusting." There is a plastic black buckle that is supposed to lock the buckle down. I took that buckle out then ran the straps through the sewing machine and put a few bar-tacks on each strap. Now I have lef straps JUST the size I want them, never growing, and never having those black buckles pinch my legs and other "stuff." /forum/images/graemlins/ma.gif No more whining from me!

BTW: I took Rockies advice and ordered 9mm, for more knot, of the StaSet. I want this simple in a techno way. Maybe later I'll get into sheaths and advanced fibers.

My bad, Jack. The first one I did on my own saddle was out of 1/4" Vectrus, spliced (ABS 8,000lbs). The one you see in the photo, which is the saddle of a former coworker (Gatito!) is good ol' 3/8ths Yalex.

I've been suffering a temptation to cut one of the D rings off my glide. I was thinking of then replacing it with a triangular quick link as to eleminate a piece of attatchment hardware. Any thoughts or experiences?

I cut off the d-rings on my Butterfly I in order to put Positioners directly on the saddle. I spec'd out the triangular Maillon Rapides and they are plenty strong. MR also makes square links.

When the Glide first came out someone joked on Arboristsite about the saddle being named after the buckles not the bridge :)
