The mfg's love to gouge on parts, and make it hard to find a good part # on belts and bearings etc.. I've used the above co. with perfect results for belts, sprockets, bearings etc.... good luck with it.. The polychain on my rayco ran around $140, a few years back.. I forget what it was from rayco, but they normally double the list price..

The local bandit dealer wrote up and estimate of over $1,900 just to change the hydraulic oil on my 1590 xp chipper.. I bought the oil for just over $200 delivered.. Been meaning to post that estimate as an attachment..

'gouging'???

Every company has overhead...just like arbos. Consider how we talk about homeowners doing their own treework. Not everyone is mechanically inclined or willing to take time to do things themselves.

You don't think $1,700 for the labor on changing hydraulic oil on a chipper is gouging???

I bought a new starter for my stump grinder for somewhere around $180-220.. rayco wanted over $600 for it.. I call doubling the RETAIL price of a very expensive (to begin with) part.. gouging..

DO they need to make $400 on a starter to cover their overhead???? or $1700 to change some oil.. C'mon Tom...

that's what they do.. they make it hard to cross reference.. if you can't wait... you gotta pay.. otherwise you might be able to measure the belt.. count the teeth on the sprockets etc...

You've got time or money. Sometimes we go to great lengths to save a buck only to lose sight of the time investment we make and what that cost in lost production. What's the downtime on the chipper or stump grinder costing you while you search out the part? Now what about your time spent tracking it down and installing it vs. generating more business. There's also the added time it takes to get to a given job where you needed whatever it was you had in the shop.

At a previous company the owner would do a lot of the mechanical repairs himself but it took him three to four times as long due to interruptions from customer calls, running out to do an estimate and having to stop and get a tool that he didn't have or that other part needed. The time alone it took to get back to the repair was more than the time it took to do it. All the while we're without that piece of equipment having to defer work or make other arrangements.

Be careful you're not being "penny wise and pound foolish"...

Good luck tracking it down.

Try these guys Jimmy:

Industrial drive belts

there's no reason to buy the belt for that kind of money. Do a little research. Ever since my first chipper, '62 Whisper Chipper, I never bought repair parts from the manufacturer. There is always a supply house in a major city that has the same product.

You might have to bring your old belt along for them to match.

I would bro but i dont have any numbers besides carltons and i tryed to cross reference with no luck. The belt is in a million pieces so I went ahead and purchased it from carlton. If i spent any more time with this I would lose way more in production time(money) than I ever would have saved. But as soon as I get it im gonna take it to purvis indutries and get a spare for about 250.This is kinda frustrating cause I feel like im getting hoised.

If it makes you feel better we broke the exact same belt this week! I also paid the big $ and had it shipped overnight from Carlton. I think I overpaid too!!! Why can't these belts break in the winter!?!
