Stiffest rope?

Ok.....so I've decided I'll call my dealer for my next fix tomorrow and see if they can get me some uniline. If they can't I'll look in to getting some HTP sewn up for the lanyard.

uniline is hand spliceable, but for 3/8" the finished splice is 27" long. For 1/2" the splice is 35" long. Plus it is way too stiff to knot. That's why they use those crimp connections on the buckingham rigid flipline.

Yup. I'm thinking 27" is fine for a termination.....maybe even 35". I'd have to measure. May not be an issue at all if I can't find a source.

x 3 for Sterling HTP being cable like, I have a Sterling tri tech lanyard and while it is wearing well it's actually getting softer as it's breaking in. Right now running 10mm OP on it in a Vt a nice mix

Ok, so I got off the horn with treestuff.com and here's the skinny on uniline/unitex: yeah, they can get it, but only if you want a 600' reel....at 5 doll hairs a foot. Wish the buck ridge line lanyard was longer, but it is what it is I guess. HTP it is.

The marine shop across town gets mill ends from Yale fairly regularly, and i've seen some good pieces of uniline in the bins before. Sold by the pound in various lengths but not officially rated. I can keep an eye out for you if you want to try some. I'm not saying to use it for PPE , but might be a fun project anyways.

Maybe I'm the only one who doesn't know, but what are mill ends?

try knotandrope.com they might takr care of you
I'll send them an email and see what they say. I'm surprised I can't find it by the foot on a marine supply supplier Web page, but who knows. Maybe my Google-fu is failing me. A digital ninja of better skill may have better luck. Wouldn't be the first time, and recently, that my online hunts were fruitless when others found what I was looking for after a quick search.

By my understanding, mill ends are the tails of production runs of rope from the factory that the rope Co. won't sell. They send the rope to this marine supplier, where it is sold as accessory rope for tiedowns and whatnot. As far as I can tell the rope is exactly like the normal rope, but it might be missing a few fibers (not whole strands or anything). Some wicked good deals if you don't mind not having a rating on a rope, or are just looking to practice splicing

how is the HTP as a lanyard? Stiff enough? Pros/cons? Thanks : )

Haven't really had a chance to use it. Ain't that always the way with purpose built gear? You just neeeeeeeed it for lots of jobs right up until you have it, then once you have it in hand, you just don't win similar bids :/

For a stiff kernmantle static rope it is had to beat any of the PMI ropes in the Max Wear category. Most of their static lines come in two varieties: EZ Bend and Max Wear.

Max Wear is cable like and most of my rescue customers prefer EZ Bend.

You can buy it by the meter and order sewn eyes.

Hope this helps someone.
