Stein folding cube

Faltheimer all day baby. Got mine just after the TreeHouse project. When was that? 2002? Just finally had a corner blow out last year. I got ten years out of it! I'm super happy with it. I plan on repairing the corner soon here, but have used it for a couple months even WITH the stay popped out of one corner.

I am with Nick. Pay the extra it is worth it. My Faltheimer's have never failed and are still going strong after 6 years. I have tried or work with others who have tried all the others. None even came close.

Yep, Faltheimer is the way to go. Shop around for the best price. I've had all the knock offs including the Stein and none have lasted as long as the FH. IMHO, if you have to resort to repairs within the first year of use then it's a failure. I put a price on my time to repair stuff and in the end it doesn't add up. Like anything else it's the cost of ownership and not just the purchase price. So FH over 3 yrs =$30/yr. ($90 purchase price) Stein blown out and repaired every yr that'll cost me the $22.50 plus half man hr. @ $100/manhr (the billable rate for your time), puts it at $72.50/yr. No cost benefit to the cheaper equipment.

Never owned a faltheimer, but I've greatly extended the life of my stein cube by painting a couple coats of Plastidip on the corner stays. I did this as soon as I saw some wear, ad it took me all of ten min to do. The plastidip stays flexible with the opening and closing of the cube and can be picked up at the hard wear store for ten bucks.
I even brought my shredded no-name cube back to life as a spare with the stuff, and have used to repair small holes in rope bags and to rubberize small sections of webbing to attach to my saddle as gear loops.
I guess this is kind of a rave for plastidip more than the stein cube, but I do think its a solid cube with a cheap price tag that, with minimal reinforcement, will last me a long time. Just my thoughts.

While you're at it Jon, dip your new throwbags in the Plastidip a couple of times or more, they'll last you a lot longer.

Sometimes I just want to dip my hands in plastidip...
