Static Lines

I really wanted to love Tachyon from the day I saw it at TCIA Hartford but I don't. I think Kevin just put his finger on it, too round. I like the way Velocity squishes.

I have 10mm snakebite. Used it at mwtcc and liked it enough to buy it, I love it now. I ftlk for th most part it will bite ya if your hands slip. Heard its great for ascenders too. Obviously the best thing to do is try different ones out and go from there. Happy hunting

Though I've never used it for SRT, I have to say that I love Tachyon. I actually eased into using it by getting a lanyard made of it first, then bought it as my primary climbing line. Right out of the bag it's kinda slick, but once the new wheres off, it's great. By far my favorite line.

Sorry dude, I couldn't resist.

The number of strands is just a single design factor, like type or blend of fiber, ends per carrier, how they're twisted and braided, etc.

All those are engineered and tweaked to yield a rope with a given set of properties. Number of strands could affect, breaking strength, shrinkage, texture, stuff like that.

Somewhere, NE Ropes or Sterling (can't remember which) has a good pdf on rope engineering. I'll see if I can find it.

How's that for not answering your question?

Sterlings HTP meets the NFPA standards for rope rescue. If a little larger is what you are looking for Sterling makes super static which many rope rescue companies prefer due to size (1/2") and feel.

I am a big fan of the PMI EZ Bend. It is super stiff stuff, which you may like or not, personally I really like it.

Whoa, it is NOT stiff, ergo its moniker "EZ Bend" !

Max Wear offers superior abrasion resistance against sharp edges and gritty conditions. Max Wear stiffness can make tying knots and stuffing into rope bags harder. The sheath is white with a red stripe.
EZ Bend is just as strong as Max Wear, but is more soft, supple and flexible which makes tieing knots and stuffing into a rope bag easier.
