SRT Question

Mark B brings up some really great points. One to think about the most maybe is that there are so many other techniques and systems that have many more flaws than ascending.

One thing I read a few times here is that 2 times the climbers weight is dangerous and so on. How much do many climbers weigh? Do any of you that feel this way ever rig weights more than you weigh from these same sized crotches? Is it that scary? I for one rig much more than twice my weight from leaders tha are the same sized as I typically climb off of, which gives me a great working knowledge on what can be done safely.

I don't think that it is that easy to break even a small anchor point that is loaded correctly. Incorrect is incorrect in whatever we do, but let's just keep things in proper perspective about this issue.

I also think that climbing on just one union has more inherent risk than using multiple points and anchoring to a belay device at the base of the tree.

Drop testing a toothed ascenders in the fashion shown will have much different results than the drop described by some here where a tip beaks and then the load falls a meter into another crotch. That might be a good idea for a new test.

I agree. If you choose an appropriate TIP. Your choice of methods is up to you.
