Hello all, Newbee wanting to know what is the best way to trim my palms?
Do I just throw line over a bunch of fronds? How many does it take to hold my fat body? Will the sharp edges hurt the rope? Any and all comments would be helpful. Thank you, Bogger
I have not figure how to throw line through the head. I have been using a foot rope strap and ascending the trunk. Then attach SRT with retrievable monkey tail.
I can not climb booted palms this way. Would love to learn how to install the climb line from the ground.
Oh and be extremely careful of Ddrt through the palm head. I have know and seen a few guys fall out of the tree because the line slid down the frawns and out.
Throwline over middle of crown, attach anchor line and block, with climbing line running through block, pull anchor line until block rests against bottom of crown, tie off anchor properly at base, and then climb DRT.
Definitely had trouble getting lines stuck in the fronds before. Usually just try again and find the right spot. Maybe a thicker, rounder throwline? I don't do many palms like the Cali crews do. How do y'all tame those beasts out there?

When I worked for Bartlett in CA we either used a bucket or spiked them. Always felt wrong but that is what the boss man said I had to do. Always told myself "they are not really trees anyway"
I would probably use a Rope Wrench or Tree Logic's method if you want ddrt.
When I first started in the biz I was taught that spiking wouldn't hurt palms like it does real trees, as their living tissue was in the heart of the trunk, and not right under the bark like trees.
I didn't do it for long because, it just looks ugly to see holes up the trunks, and I couldn't help but think it was injuring them somehow.
