SRT Anchor

I have been searching the forums for a picture I saw that had a SRT system that was anchored with a port-a-wrap and backed up with a biner and friction hitch. Is this an easy way to set up a SRT. I am not to familiar with any of the ascending techniques.

I am curios what technique is generally better...SRT or DdRT?

What are the ways you anchor your setup?

What is allowed in competitions?

Thanks for all the help

Casey

My preference for an SRT anchor is anything that is simple for the person on the ground to understand.

After all, that is who is going to lower you down in the event of a possible injury.

When I climbed solo, I used the Gri-Gri for that purpose. I think the Gri-Gri is user friendly and it would not need much practice to get the feel for lowering someone down without sending them to the ground.

On the contrary. A porty may not be the best thing if a stranger had to lower you down.

With that said, I do understand it is most likely that a climber wouldn't have to be rescued by a H.O. But, you never know.

I think it is a great option to be able to lower a system but wonder how practical it would be in a real senerio. If you had a safety strap on it would not work. If there were limbs under you they could do more damage. I feel it is worth setting up, because it could aid in a rescue but should not be the sole plan. Also do you tie a figure 8 knot in the running end so it couldnt go thru the lowering device if it came to that point.

Just a few thoughts to throw out there.

Don't forget the Figure 8! LOL Its is making a comeback is in some peoples climbing systems. Use it to go up, or come down! It could be hard locked at the base of the tree, only issue is the hockle it puts in rope, but only if it is actually used. Cheap and also almost everyone has one, if I could only remember where I put it!

I'm a working climber who does 98% of climb line work single line ..... same as Marlin except I'll anchor hitch or spliced eye to a carabiner , of course the Yosemite wrap ...... I try and work in such a way that I won't have to be lowered .... only the pieced out tree sections ....

That's the way I set up SRT, because most climbers are familiar with a porty and friction hitch. If interested, I can post that pic again.

Here's mine. I use the same as Bowlegs for the same reasons.

The pics of my trunk wrap system aren't on my laptop so I can't post them...sorry.

I wrap the rope around the tree enough to generate good friction then tie it off with a hitch like DSMc has coming off the top of the porty.

Very Cool guys....I will look at them all later a little closer I have to get to climbing class...plus TopHopper came to visit our school and he showed me a way to anchor....it was very cool...he also will be climbing with us today so i hope he can show me other techniques

Thanks all if anyone has a different way post it....i am up for many different options

This would be another option: DMM's Rigging Hubs were launched at the trade show in Augsburg last week. They are a compact, bomb proof (WLL 1t, MBS 5t) interface to de-clutter and organise hardware and textile components with.

There are many uses you can put them to, one of them being for a basal anchor. You could girth hitch directly into the center hole and attach to krabs in the outer slots with backed up Munter hitches.

hi guys,

a nice topic to look at and all of the suggestions have really got me thinking on this one, srt is something i enjoy and really see the benefits in and the more i do it the more i get excited about the possibilities that are there for it as a access system.

the way i anchor is with a sling around the base of the tree with a 3 paw plate on it in the middle hole goes a pirana with a 30m 10mm line attached and has the excess on the floor, i then have a op 8mm prussic to back that up on the rigght hole and on the left i have a dmm revolver snap gate to fair lead. i can set this up then when i put the throw line in and install my line i connect the installed line and basal line together and there is my line the access line is 55m which allows for a lower from anywhere on the sr'd line, its tricky without a image but i thought id share its really small to carry around and works a treat.

hope this helps, sorry its a bit complicated without the photo.

No worries. I understood it. And I like the Revolver idea as a fair lead. Perfect!

There seems to be many uses for the Revolver popping up here lately.

yer im a real fan of them i find you can live without them or do lots with them but id go for the first option. i would like to see a steel revolver for rigging though. this could just be me being lazy but i see some cool options for them.

glad you understood what it was i was banging on about, ill try and get a photo up but im a nightmare for photos so i make no promises.

the whole srt method is so versitile its amazing ive loved using it and love playing and working with it. im really excited about where it is gonna go and what will be done with it.

there ar some good ideas here i love iit

This also works well. Munter autoblocked with a prusik.

Hard to see but I think the munter is under the slip not right. That looks simple.
