Spurs?

I'm in the market for a new set of climbing spurs, because my current pair of Kleins (with buc pads) have been causing a lot of pain and bruising on my inner calf/shin area. My partner has also experienced the same thing. I'm wondering if any of you have had any experience with the Geckos or T2 climbers? Or have any suggestions as to what is the most comfortable set of climbers. I'm located in the Pacific Northwest and the removals are mainly conifers, so a somewhat longer gaff is preferred. Thanks for your reply.

Changing your upper pads will make a much bigger difference in comfort than buying new gaffs. For the most part, gaffs are gaffs with slight variations in weight or gaff angle. But ALL of them place the majority of pressure on the inside of your calf and that pressure is distributed by the upper pad. Why not buy a couple different types of upper pads and try them out?

I bought the T2's last year, but only because my old gaffs were stolen and I like spending money on gear. They are nice and a little lighter than the steel ones, but how much can you tell after you've worn them for 6-12 months?

Hegg, I agree with Rocky. I have a pair of the buckingham steel gaffs. Had the same problem you're talking about. Bought the buc-pads, and now i can be on 'em all day with minor irritation. If i where you, save yourself some cash.

I have Klein and Buckingham leg irons, some with offset sturrup and twisted shanks and other with just straight leg irons. I like my Klein and caddy pad combo best though, the seem to be the most comfortable.

Ditto that!

I'll call ya quickdraw jabber for beatin' me to gypo's 335. But that's Ok fella. I have 3, count 'em 3, 200T's on their way, for $350 each... too good to pass up ..maybe I wised up? Just call me a Husky traitor....trader...and over the hill at that.

Who can identify this tree?

Heggenes,
I have no idea why other climbers have not mentioned this to you before but have you extended your shanks to the fullest length? Try doing that then wear them for awhile might solve your problems

Frans;
Spurs have to be adjusted to fit each and every individual separately.
The leg iron has to be below the bone on the inside of the knee in order to fit properly.

Rog,

I only run Stihl for my climbing saws, so this 335 will be a new horse in the stable. It may be a quick little filly once Ed gets through with it.......who knows? For a couple of honeys I had too be quick. I couldn't pass it up, even if it turns out to be crap after a year, I will still have got a good deal.

Oh ya, about the leg irons.............what Kevin said!
