Spurs pads adjustments. Should there be any pain?

Just because others enjoy inflicting pain and discomfort on themselves doesn’t mean you need to. I found spurs uncomfortable for a long while, but never painful. That no pain no gain thing is just another urban / suburban / rural myth!

However I accept the “pain challenge” with humility as a part of rite of passage :)
I just hope there is no putting out of cigarettes on my skin ;)

Do your buck wraps have the metal insert or not. When I had buck wraps I had the metal insert and loved them. Three fingers below the bottom of my knee cap was the sweet spot for me personally. Boots were Hoffman Poleclimbers

Probably not a great long term solution, but I knew a guy that climbed with the cheap leather pads, and he swore by a pair of plastic soccer shin guards strapped under the spur pad, 10-15$ at Walmart maybe. Probably a couple bucks if you can find them at a thrift store. He did indeed seem comfortable. I was on the cheap pads for a year or so too, I wore tall hockey socks with the cuff folded down a few times to make more padding. Definitely helps until you can spend 100$ or more on a decent rigid pad.

I might try that
so far ive used folded cloth, folded felt, and a cut up knee mat (about 1" neoprene)
so far id say the felt is the best
