Spots on Linden

Someone sent me two pictures of a Linden tree. He said it has sooty mold as well. Does anyone have an idea? Those are the only two pictures I was given, and I don't know anything else about the tree.

Looks like, and could be rhe power of suggestion I'll admit, that there are some localized borer exit holes there that may have leaked some sap that was then colonized by some fungi. Not the more typical black sooty mold but perhaps something along those lines.

I could just be chasing ghosts and by that I mean natural depressions in the bark. The white halo is interesting nevertheless. Weird lichen I'm unfamiliar with perhaps?

Possible bacterial wetwood. No real curative approach for this. Keep the soil as healthy as possible.

I only know the term "sooty mold" applied to foliar epiphytes, usually feeding on aphid exudate.
