Splicing Dynaglide

Fly fishing leader line. The larger stuff works really well and is small enough to go though the fibers. Then i just used regular strait bury lengths and lock stitched them and they work soooo nice. Much better than a slippers clove or anchor.

I have a small fid I made out of a needle with a rounded off tip. Works like a charm for splicing throwline.

Brion, do you know if the micro wand will splice 1.75mm Zing-It? You might have to send me one so I can check for myself!

I too have a small fid made of stainless mechanics wire (thanks to Prz). Works like a gem for dynaglide and zing it alike.

I don't know why, but I got this line stuck too many times, and not from trying to pull out the line with the ball still attached, but from a throw that just never comes down again, bit of a mystery. It flattens out a lot around a branch, maybe that's why. I couldn't get a 16 oz. ball back to the ground, you could watch it decelerate and come to a halt, and go no further.
It does splice nicely though, don't know what I'll use it for.

For what it's worth, a straight bury is easiest. Regular locking brummell is goofy because you have to pull 200' of rope through to complete the lock. A mobius brummell works well if you feel the need for a lock.

A couple years ago, I started making my bury 4 to 5 FEET long. It makes the rope thicker at the end where you're holding it. You get better control- but you still get the advantages of using a skinny throwline.

FWIW.
