Splicing double braid together

If I want to splice 2 double briad ropes ( polydyne ) together, do i use the end to end class 1 splice . Rope is used. hoping to salvage a nice rope my dad cut 65' off my 200' piece os rigging rope. I'm comfortable with eye splices, and brummell, have fid set from samson.

I have spliced eye's in used polydyne and it was easier than I thought it would be, no reason to follow used rope instructions, but I don't know with end to end. It seems the the reduced strength because of the splice would mean hauling around a rope that is heavier than a smaller diameter line with a similar or better working load limit, basically I agree with Jesse.

I already bought a new 5/8" Polydyne, 200', ( well my father replaced the one he cut )but want to be able to also use the lighter 1/2" for smaller stuff and still have that length. I tried it, and messed up one of the core cuts, so when done I had an area that was cover only, so I scrapped the small piece I was testing. I'll try it some more, see how it goes. I'm definetly going to stitch and whip it too.

The 'end for end' splice is designed for use to make 'endless loop' slings (a spliced loop). Having an end for end splice in the working end of a rigging line is sketchy. Where the splice is, the rope increases in diameter and won't run smoothly thru a block.
Use end for end splices for making loops only.

Thanks, noted and will do.

There are ways to do an end-to-end splice in double braid that will allow it to run through a block, but to use norm's word...they're sketchy! There's something a little creepy about seeing the full load on the splice.

It is for that mere reason (the sketchyness) that I don't do end-end splices in double braid for people. I've been able to maintain 80-85% of the line strength, but it's not worth it to me.

Just get a new line.
