Splicing a split tail?

I was looking at "Splices by Nick's" web page and he had a split tail made from XTC that he stripped the core out and just folded the jacket over and threaded it back inside itself. When you do that do you need to taper it at all or does all fit inside?

You still taper it. The taper is the same as the standard directions. 10 strands removed, one pair every five strands, but the tail is a few feet long instead of 28" long.

I remove a pair every 4 strands on 16-strand rope, so 8 strands are remaining on the taper.
I thought thats the standard to be honest!
Anyway, it works fine...

Anybody else doesit that way?

You can do it either way. As long as the hitch grabs well for you, you're fine.
