Splicing 10mm Bee Line

I remember reading somewhere that Yale is no longer recommending splicing 10mm Bee Line, because of a problem with hemorrhaging. But I was wondering if it would be ok to splice it for use as a redirect sling. I'd only be splicing one end of the cord and I'd use two revolvers, one in the spliced eye and one on an adjustable prussik. Would this application be ok to use a splice on with 10mm Bee Line or should I be looking at other cords?

I wouldn't bother. Just get a different rope. There are plenty of other good options for a redirect. I like NE Ropes tech chord tied with fishermans knots.

I spliced my retrievable redirect out of 3/8" tenex tec. Super cheap (I think 40 some cents a foot), easy to splice and still small diameter. Can also try All Gear's Tech Cord (5/16" or 3/8") 5/16 is still cheaper than beeline, easier to splice and also still has a 6,200lb test (from what I could find).

I say go for it. If it herniates, it herniates and you fix it or retire it.

I've spliced tons of this stuff with no problem- but I know of 3 slings I made that DID herniate.

I don't think it would be ANSI compliant with just splicing the polyester core. It has to be at 5,400# and in a 3/8" diameter, the core strength isn't gonna be at that rating.
Why knot tie a double fishermans loop (grapevine, double overhand) in the 1 end to capture the revolver? This way, it is ANSI Z133.1-2006 compliant.

Norm- I don't think he was saying he was going to splice it with an exposed core- but I could be reading it wrong.

I think he's saying he wants to splice just one eye on one end, using the standard double braid splice that yale used to recommend for that rope.

RangerDanger, can you clarify?

Does 'herniating' mean the core showing through the cover? That has happened to a a few eye-eye tails I've made, I figured I just didn't get them right, slack in the cover so the core takes more than it's share of the load. (?)
I'd be sad if the 10mm beeline splice was no good, it's one of my favorites.

why not put a little sling on your footlock prussik and use it.Theres not really a need to carry a extra rope up the tree when you already have your fl prussik.

I was going to use the standard double braid splice that Yale recommends. Want to try and keep it streamlined, that's why I'm not using a double fishermans.

My apologies. I read it wrong.
Go for it Adrian.

I second this.

Thanks guys. Once I get some 10mm Bee Line in I'm going for it.

As for a sling on my fl prussic, I don't want to do that because I don't always have it on me. Like on a removal, or if I SRT up a tree. It's just easier for me to carry around a redirect sling, so I have it all the time.

Heres a pic of my fl prussik, adjustable, retrievable redirect friction saver or what ever you want it to be.

Very nice Jimmy! When i was climbing DRT i was going to make one of those up. Still might just because it can always be used. Especially for small trees.

Yeah I just throw on 2 revolvers and that little shackle or a pully or just choke it -also I footlock with it.I like it because its smaller in diam than the beeline so easier to carry around.

Derrick its ok you can still dabble in drt,you know theres alot more toys to play around with and possible get stuck.ha ha.

Yeah I think Abram Zies showed me something like that a couple years ago or is was just made possible with the revolvers.
