spider legs

Aw man that's my favorite because you can repurpose any old 15' length of line for this. I've never had a Blake Hitch drift or cinch too much when used like this but if, for example I'm using .5" line or something close, I try not to get too Neadertal with it. Good technique and easy to teach.

I have used this as well, and sometimes with the tail of the rig line. It forms a triangle of rope, and you need to estimate how much tail to leave to form the rest of the system.

I've also used an Alpine Butterfly in the main line as an attachment point for a second leg.

Both are great methods in my opinion.

Light rigging only...gotta chose the right set up for the situation. It sure could get really tight if shock loaded, or used on a more dynamic rope such as Polydyne. If I think the Butterfly will become overloaded, I'll use the Blake's hitch on a separate line, or a couple clove hitches (one on each stem) with enough tail to finish off with the "Blake"s Leg". You can easily adjust the leg length and remove slack back through the cloves.

Took me a minute Eric but I get it now. Sounds long winded but by the time you send for a balancer of some sort,if you don't have one on you, this could be rendered. Dig.

Exactly, Kristian. It is a bit long winded, and if the tie points were too far apart, it would be well worth the wait for the right add in leg line. It sure works in a pinch...gotta improvise sometimes! :)
