Alright the risk management people here at school have decided that our springfest kids climb is to dangerous, so we are going to put on a mini- stihl games show that only us in the department would participate. The quiestion I have for you guys is how deep does a 12" dia. pole with 30 feet (9 m) need to be buried and would it need cabling at the top?

That's the size of a class 7 utility pole.
They are normally planted 5-6 ft. in the ground.
You could go less than that with a minimum of four guys.

Up at Pual Smiths College we did a job there when I worked construction and we put in 4 spar poles. After a soil test which turned up mostly sandy loam we put in at 8-10 feet in the ground after ordering new poles to meet with the height they wanted. Yes contact ACCT for the specs we did and that was the requirements.
