Something to compliment the Pantin Foot Ascender

Every invention was once a DIY project. Prototypes can cost a lot to design, too. For that reason, I have no problem buying something new, and trying to replicate it at home. Just because it's made of rope doesn't mean it's not revolutionary. Having said that, I've never tried the thing, so I may eat my words later.

That does look like some complicated splicing though.

You have to understand that the nature of the tenex (or any rope really) constricts the outside down onto the 'core'.

Try feeding a piece of bungee inside a hollow braid (or any rope)...anchor the bungee and the rope at one end....tension the rope and see if the bungee moves? Now pull the bungee out, tension the line and see if the bungee retracts? I did, it doesnt work.

Mike put a lot of work into making it all fit, slide, and recoil just right. Considering that its all in a nice smooth package with no bulges or flat spots...pretty cool.

Out of the box the only change I made was replacing the brass snap with a Petzl Ange biner so I could clip it to my bridge ring.
