Social media. Is it worth it?

Just wondering how many of you maintain a social media presence for your business? Has it paid off? Or do you find it too time consuming?

Anu input would be great.
Thanks

Social media is time consuming but it does pay off.

We are a visual culture - before, after and during photos tell a story about who you are and what you do. It has opened my business up to a lot of unexpected business - I have a lot of real estate agents who follow me.

As I've grown the business, I have less time to take photos and post content that drives traffic to my website.

However, as I've grown, I can now buy better technology and pay someone to do it for me - new cameras and extra pay for my wife to come out and take photos at quality jobs. We will be planning that this winter and doing x amount of jobs a week.

I'm also looking into one place (social media dashboards) that post to all accounts.

It's sweat equity advertising. It also targets a new clientele- 30-50 year olds who will be clients for a long time

Great feedback thx. Have you noticed a difference between instagram or Facebook? I imagine it's just as easy to link it all together.

I think it is important because pretty much EVERYONE is on social media and most people search online when looking up tree companies, tree service, etc. It's not guaranteed that it will do anything but I like to post pictures of jobs that we are doing, etc.

They do different things - Facebook pretty much acts like a webpage with a blog - while Instagram is a way to tell a visual story with very minimal wording - both integrate.

I have never got a job from Instagram directly, but I use it to sell work.

People go to the webpage and then to Instagram to see a current visual representation of what we do.

Or from Facebook then to Instagram.

Or when people call and I qualify them, I then say - check out our Instagram.

I personally use Instagram to connect to other professionals to see what they are doing and how they are doing it - I personal message them to ask about equipment, techniques, or just tell them thAt I admire their work.

However, I've yet to have someone ask me to do tree work after they searched the hashtag #arblife - lol.

For whatever reason, Instagram kind of creates silos and isolated communities- while Facebook casts a broader network and net.

I agree social media is great for tree worker's to connect to other tree worker's, YouTube being one of them. I sometimes take a helmet cam up in the tree with me. Actually pretty cool to watch it after I've done the job lol.

I’ve found that social media alone doesn’t do much in terms of bringing in new business. However, having a social media presence absolutely helps your SEO for your website. I also feel like a business with a social media presence is both more professional and more personal.

Like any marketing tool, it puts your name out there where your prospective clients are. It will reinforce your brand and help build that identity. If you've done your work identifying your client and tailored your content to connect with their values then it will lead to a call when they are ready to enter the market. The more they see your name the better that connection is. Think of association the point of contact has with your brand. What image is it building? Is it positively reinforcing my brand and message? Is there a negative connotation?

Use it all wisely and the sale will be much smoother.

I feel like its always good to have some sort of presence on social media. We rarely pull clients directly from our social media accounts but it does make the company seem more legitimate when you google our name and we have activity on twitter and facebook.

If anything, it shows you are passionate and love what you do - the thing that is most frustrating is that it is hard to capture the real size of trees and wood!

I'll have the groundie take a photo and I can't even be found in the tree! Or I'll chuck out a 1,000 pound piece and it looks so disappointing in the photo or video.

I bought my wife a really nice camera for petter pics, but now that she's 8 months pregnant, I don't want her anywhere near the job site.

I tried for four years myself, trusted and lied to by companies that did absolutely nothing for my campaign. One company did a great job in setting my company by copywriting and getting me placed in Google Maps/ Organics but I was unable spend at the time money for Facebook and Google Adwords to be seen. Then I met Zach Winsett with Tree Service SEO and he turned things around for me the very first day of running my new campaign. He works hard each month monitoring with continually adjusting how the search engines work in my favor with advertising using Google Adwords and Facebook. You can contact Zach at (678) 810-1683 or www.treeserviceseo.com Thank you Zach for fine good job well done, I had a great year!

Something semi on topic with this but interesting/funny when I think about it. I recall years back when Facebook first hit the scene for the general public to use there was a conversation about it here. It was asked who uses FB for there company website/presences online? ( or something to that effect) Most of the chatter was coming back saying how it was not professional to do that and its just for kids, and other answers to that regard. Now years later 99% of us use it showing our work in one fashion or another and it is a staple to advertisement. Remember when you were a kid ( *people that were kids prior to the internet*) and you would see the local tree company or heating company or whatever service drive by. Then you grew up and needed to use that type of service and that company popped into your head due to always seeing them around as a kid in the neighborhood? That is why we use new media such as FB or Snapchat or whatever the NEXT thing is. Kids use it heavily, they tend to grow up and own trees on their properties...... then they tend to remember the companies that had always been in their presence their whole lives. As for most working adults, I still say word of mouth is #1 followed by social media at this point but has a good chance of flipping order. So my way of going about this in one side is to market for two groups, the here and now, and the next ones up.

I hope that made sense to you all.

I think social media like Instagram works really good for reaching new customers. It seems to me that FB soon will be dead. It was a really popular social media about 5 years ago, but now there are sources like Instagram, Twitter, etc. Specifically, Instagram is so popular now, I really enjoy then sit on it. I had an old FB group and once had an idea to create the same for Instagram. My friend said that here I could find info about how I can buy Instagram followers. At that moment I didn’t have money, but my sister had the luck to buy some. She is a famous blogger now and really doesn't need to buy anymore. Maybe I will do like her, who knows...

I updated a FB page maybe about 2 years ago...

But I know clients tell each other about our company via FaceBook and Nextdoor on a regular basis.
