Slipped Rap Anchor Vid

Interesting Nick, but if you're pulling the tail up to you anyway why not just pass it around the limb and terminate it to your harness?

Just looking for ways to reduce damage to the tree. The way you described is the safest way for sure.

Javier Of COURSE I'm bringing the splicing tools! The green rope ships from yale May 24th. I'll schedule with you for the cabling when I actually have the rope in hand.

Have fun on those zips!

Personally, I would rather do a bit of outer bark damage to the tree then take that type of risk. Like TLHamel said, tie off that end to your harness, then descend off. There is no way to be sure that tail is going to stay put. Or, why not take the tail around the limb, pull it around the other side with enough slack to get to where you want to go, then use an 8 or a munter double rope rap. Voila, no bark damage, and your safe.

[/ QUOTE ] Sure there is. In the same way you learn a knot. Practice with it, learn its nuances, try it when you know it is safe, and go from there.

Wow- this is actually a really good idea that I didn't think of. Cool! There is one limiting factor to your suggestion, though. If I only have 40 of rope tail left, I can only go 20' with your method. Other than that, it is WAY safer than what I showed in the vid. I'll keep this one in mind for next time.
