Singing Tree Rope Wrench

Kevin. I really like it. In no way am I criticizing with what I'm asking... Why does the wrench part have to be so long? Can't it be shorter? As long as the angles of the friction points & attachmentpoint for the teather are the same, it looks like it can be much more compact. And with a more compact design, could the teather be shorter?

Like this?

Will the second generation rope wrench be attached mid-line? The new Petzl Gri Gri 2 size and sheaves idea would work well. Then a carabiner can attach the teather...

Something quick and easy to change over to DDRT would be nice.

On removals where I am cinched around the trunk and working SRT, its easy to work DdRT for a limb walk or whatever with the RW tether slacked. Its a part that I like about the RW.

I wanted to start with being on the safe side and try to conform to all safety standards that I could, while still emphasizing that it is NOT for primary life support. As more people experience the rope wrench and understand its function than I will feel more comfortable releasing mid-line attachable models.

This is the ZK-1. In my opinion, it is the best, and simplest way to access the trees currently on the market. I also really wanted something to be available ASAP for people to experience a well made, solid, rope wrench.

Sensible, logical approach to getting this out there Kevin.
Acceptance first, refine & evolve as you go. Well done mate.
Very keen to see these available downunder soon!

the ZK-2 will definitly be midline attachable. I am working through various prototypes. Jamin, I think we got it as short as possible, the length is integral to the function and allows the wrench to torgue the rope meaningfully. It takes quite a bit of force to bend the rope like that while you are weighted on it. My tether is currently around 8 inches, it is quite short. Just long enough to not interfer with the hitch.

Southsound, it is quite easy to switch to ddrt. You simply take the hitch off and retie it above the wrench. You can then let the wrench slide down to the bottom of the rope.

Jamin, for footlocking, I footlock with the rig at my harness. It is slower than putting it extended in front of me, but there is no switching back and forth, but if you make an extendable bridge and put the hitch and wrench extended above you head it is easy to footlock if you like footlocking a single line. I have found the pantin to be very helpful and I hae even taken the measure of sewing the pantin directly to my boot so I dont have to be continually adjusting it mid climb.
