shortest eye to eye?

What is the shortest eye to eye one can make out of a double braid? I'm hoping to make a 12" out of 10mm. I've also been curios about 11-12mm ropes too.

I've made a secret weapon out of 10mm ocean that was 22.5" from splice to splice. I don't think you will get it much shorter than that.

If you lay the rope out and look at the numbers with an 11mm rope the last mark (mark 3) on the core is 16.5" from the exit point. If you were to double that you're looking at 33" which covers both splices. Any shorter and you would have the covers crossing over each other inside the core.

Sounds horrible to try! Shortest i2i I've made was 18" using 3/8" Tenex w/ locked Brummell's and crossing the tails.

yes it does sound horrible to try, so that's why I decided to ask. Less trial and error to make the horror bearable.

I made a 12" one once for a footloop.

BUT I had one splice done, then I cut the rope really short and executed a total no-measure, no standard splice. It was way short but it always held as a foot loop. I definitely would use it for PPE.

We can sew it as short as you want though.

I have worked something out, Pure 6mm vectran braid made into an eye2eye works perfect as a prusik, when its buried hits around 8>9mm.

You could get down to anything, using straight or locked brummels
