There are setups where it’s important to have ropes held ‘in phase, and not rotating. The Shizl works there

A few years back, @Brocky sent me a couple of his versions of this... I promptly made about a dozen variants, myself, because they just work so well and weigh next to nothing. I think this one, still in use on a short lanyard, is one of the Brocky originals.
Forgot about using a thimble, have been using the stopper/tender mostly. From your picture, an improvement would be to lengthen the strap until the thimble is sitting right under the hitch, holding it in place with an o ring above the sewn area. Would take less effort to get the hitch sliding.
An improvement to the stopper is to add a small piece of pipe that the stopper would ride on, very close to the ease of a pulley.

Believe it or not, it replaces a pulley I was using, and on that lanyard, it works flawlessly. Better than the pulley, and weighs a few grams. It's a short lanyard, six feet, that I use on the right side and always have it on the saddle. I have tons of mechanical adjusters, but they're clangy, a nuisance, and heavy. This setup is none of those things.
It really just keeps the rope aligned with the Distel Hitch, and the thimble never touches the hitch. The stiffened legs of the hitch cord releases the hitch without issue. When I was playing with these on climbing setups, I did use a rubber O ring to keep the stitched areas of the cord eyes together, which definetely helped with tending.
