Sherrill\'s/Samson\'s Lightning Rope

Been thinking of picking some of this up since it's on sale at Sherrill right now - anyone used it enough to say yay or nay?

thanks,

If I remember correctly from looking at the chart its something like 6.6 elongation compared to 2.2 for PI so that just gives you an idea.

I've climbed on this stuff and never plan on doing it again...it's literally like being on a rubber band.

Sounds like fun! Maybe rec climbs would have a whole new feel to them.

Another climber I know got some and told me how bad it was. On a saturday when we were goofin off on a big pecan in my back yard I tried it. It sucks. It elongates tremendously. There is know way it would be very easy to hip thrust or footlock using this stuff. PI or hi-v is my fav. U can ascend into the tree using it and then climb on it. But all this is IMO. Not to HIJACK the thread but I am just curious what the benefit would be to having a climb line that stretches that much?

Thanks guys - looks like the nays have it. So much for the temptation of a 25% savings - any thoughts on the tachyon/lava? Is it like the fly - which I never really liked that much...

Tachyon is awesome, huge improvement over the fly...

Tachyon is 24 strand double braid with a core. That is, a typical double braid is a braided rope within a braided rope. The inner braided rope is hollow, and, depending on how tight the weave is, there is some amount of squeeze or bagginess. Tachyon's inner braided rope has a core, so the rope is firmer and stiffer than typical double braids.

Re: Sherrill\'s/Samson\'s Lightning Rope

my tachyon was great at first, but it is not holding up well, even with friction saver being used 99% of the time. it has also developed a strange bump in the line, its hard to the touch and i cant make any sense of why it would form, and the rope seems to loose strands here and there, not complete strands, but a strand here and there break and fuzz out, not sure why

i would still probably buy another line, it is very low stretch and efficent, its a bit slippery though seeing that i dont use gloves

Where on the rope is the "bump"?

Re: Sherrill\'s/Samson\'s Lightning Rope

I'd call the retailer or new england and seek a replacement for the lumpy rope. You shouldn't have to deal with that.

Re: Sherrill\'s/Samson\'s Lightning Rope

the bump is about 30 ft up on the line, my hitch always grabs it, thats not bad idea nick, im going to be taking some pics of gear im selling here on the buzz (commercial bump) then ill take some pics of line bump, i have no idea what it is
