Sherrill says the VT is unsafe to climb on?

Isn't this a Valdotain?

[/ QUOTE ]

That's a pretty funky hitch, I can see the similarities to the straight Valdotain (no tress) but maybe just adapted to having 1 leg.
I looks more like a klemheist the way it's tied?

That knot is just a couple of wraps around your rope. one end goes to your harness, with the other one you make a running bowline around the part that goes to your harness.

It's the first knot i used, it's a good one, 'till i discovered the knut...

edit: I forgot to say: someone told me that knot was called the 'helicopter', that's all i know

Welcome to the Buzz mikwi.

As far as I'm concerned the VT is safe to climb on, provided you know its limitations and are mindful of it.

It would be nice to hear what Tobe has to say about the illustration and why he used it?

Just curious.

never seen or heard of a vt inverting itself...

[/ QUOTE ]

I've had it happen and I didn't like it. I had to hold myself with one hand (left hand) to fumble the thing to get it to normal with my right hand. Not fun when you're 50' up.

And Mikwi! Welcome to the Buzz!

Fringgin whaaaaa! who gives a rats butt about any of it. Climb on the knot you know and trust, a vt or vtx as most tie, is well known to slip if not dressed all the time. If you run it and forget so be it, see ya in the funny pages. Climb on what you know and trust whos cares what others say, mostly an over priced catalog whore.

We just want to help others be safe.

I may also be alone in finding the Machaocan unreliable?

[/ QUOTE ]

Disagree. I like it above all other hitches.

I believe its Michoacan. Its a state in Mexico. Its where the dude that conceived of the hitch is from.

...boom boy

[/ QUOTE ]

I'd love to own a K-boom or a stick boom so Ed can call me "boom boy" as well.

Shoot, I'll take doing tree work in any sort of boom verses climbing and rigging all of the time. I want to work smarter and not harder the rest of my career.

So, if I owned a grapple truck to lift heavy logs into a truck (instead of cutting them into cookies, or better yet, quarter them) would I be called "grapple boy?"

Sorry for taking the bait with Ed's comment. But, we have to admit, they are funny most of the time.

Like I said, I may be alone - it's just a personal observation.
I do find it depends entirely on the hitch material - ice bites everytime for me, beeline not so much.

I'd say I did pretty well for a guess Alex Trebeck.

I did resist calling it a Martin...

I am negotiating with Holly to come and teach me and all of "Hartwood" how to climb. We are thinking about shipping him down here by FedEx (cheaper by the pound).

just watch out those testicles look heavy. those will gouge your pocket book before you finish dotting the 'i' in your signature.

This sounds kind of weird, but I actually LIKE the fact that the VT tends to open up and stay open on occasion. Granted I did switch to the XT to alleviate the issue a bit, but the fact that my hitch is known to open FORCES me to pay attention to the hitch instead of just tying it and taking it for granted for my entire climb.

With the XT I have a hitch that flows beautifully and allows me to be somewhat safer because I am paying much more attention to something I would otherwise pay very little attention to.....probably not for everyone though....
