I've been using a piece of throw line tied between the upper hole and lower hole to keep the Shembiner from coming off. Every now and then it would slide off the webbing and hang oddly by the line. Never loved it, but it worked. Then this week that throwline piece frayed, so time for something different.
My first plan was to drill through both sides, tap it and put a set screw that would be threaded into both.
When I went to look for that, I found a "screw post" (I learned it as a sex screw...).
Drilled a 9/64" hole first through both, then an 11/64" hold in just the "outside" as the female part is bigger diameter. (Disadvantage of doing it that way is the screw head is on the inside and hard to get a screwdriver on. However I didn't want to put a bigger hold than necessary on the bottom. The easy solution to that was gently squeezing the 2 pieces together with pliers, hand tightening the screw, then releasing the pressure and the screw was tight.
Edit to add: should have used the 3/8" long instead of 1/4" long. Will probably do that before I put it on the saddle. Will give a few extra threads to grab, but not be too long...may keep this female part, but use the longer male screw. I should also mention, the diameter was wider than the biner, so I just filed it down...it is Al, so that was easy.
