Share any real life tree rescues...

I've talked with many German climbers and some USFS climbers. IN both cases the instructors have gone through a proper peer-reviewed training so that they provide training that is fit.

Here's what it takes to become a driver in the US. Written test, eye test, driving test.

Here's what it takes to become an arbo instructor in the US. Nothing.

Is that harsh, yup! There is instruction being given that might not be as complete as possible.

After practicing many arbo ARs with a dummy under good supervision the next step would be to do it with a live person with a separate belay system.

No real "rescues" but have talked some less experienced climbers down during training and kids climbs.

Have used live "victims" for training in the old days. Have used logs and a variety of dummies since.

Relevant Training/Qualifications:

-Qualified Line Clearance Arborist (includes maintaining First Aid, CPR and annual Aerial Rescue)
-Wilderness First Responder
-High Angle Rescue Training
-Ropes Rescue Training
-Certified Treecare Safety Professional (includes being trained as a trainer)
-Maintain ability to pass drug screening test

...will always want more training.

Alright Norm, good for you too. I love the training and the real life reenactments. It's training you hope you never have to use, just like AR, but it's good to be ready.

Are there any good books/sources out that deal directly with the subject? We all need to tighten up and lower the fatality rate, we have the skill set and technology, and no shortage of innovation.
