Sewn Eye Splice Bridge (2014 Sequoia)

I am wondering how safe you all would feel climbing with this bridge.

heres a link to the new sequoia harness and you can see the bridge is just a sewn eye.

A local guy told me if you were to knick one of those white threads the side of that splice the whole splice would fail. If this were true it seems too risky..even though unlikely to knick ur rope bridge with anything. At the same time I could see a newer climber trying to put their handsaw away in an awkward fashion and catching a thread maybe..

I am a splice noob so I figured you all could learn me...plus the harness looks awesome and i want it

I can't speak to the whole thing coming undone if it gets nicked. I believe it would be very unlikely for that to happen. Think of all the sewn prussics - most if not all have some shrink tubing around them, couldn't tell in the picture I looked at if these did or not - but something that could be added if you chose to.

Any kind of machine sewn eye is lock stitched so a hit with a handsaw would damage the stitching but it would not cause it to let go. I've inspected a few of the Petzl sewn eye bridges and it is weird how lose the join is, there's no stitched in compression between the two sides of the sewn cordage. They must must be doing it that way for a reason, would be good to know what the reason is and why they're not protecting the stitching from abrasion with a shrink tube cover.

I just bought a replacement for the older style... The stitching seems short for the diameter of cord. After a climb or two the stitching softened up, and I can wiggle it about 1/8 inch side to side.. For a piece of mind I installed a back up of tech cord tied with X3 fishermans, and I don't really think about it anymore...
