Re: Sequoias in the snow
Oh yeah, Mario, there's a lot that strike my fancy. The bigger ones to be sure.
Terri and I made it into the south grove of Calavaras Big Trees too. Just by a matter of hours of the park opening the road. The snow has been heavy this year.
The south grove hike, if you take the whole loop is about 5 miles total. There's a sign saying the trail ends at the Agassiz Tree, but there's a lot more trees far beyond that.
That part of the grove is National Forest. There's some of the finest Sugar Pine in Calavaras Big Trees that I have ever seen. Specimens averaging 5 foot and larger individuals reaching 7 and 8.
Calavaras doesn't get the notoriety that the other groves achieve, but it's no less than the rest. By it, the grove is a lot less visited. Terri and I seen only 2 other hikers in a ten hour period.
I'll post some pics of the south grove later.
