Looking to get the sena setup, but have been told the 10's bump out easily if I'm up in canopy and hit a branch with the back of my head there's only 2 of us so can we re pair from in the tree or do I have to come down ? if us that much of a pain , I'll get the 10R

I've been using the 10's for a little while now. I think they're awesome. if you bump the dial and disconnect, you just have to bump it again to reconnect. They're fairly easy to use one you figure it out. I would recommend them for sure.

Tapping back in vs. pairing. Tapping is easy enough from aloft but the main unit needs to do it. Pairing can be a bit of a pain from aloft but that's less likely to be the problem if you've just bumped out.

When you bump the dial in the back, it just kicks you out of conversation, it doesn't disconnect you completely. A simple push of the dial reconnects conversation, easy as that. You will have to initially pair them, and they should remain paired until you reset the unit (which you shouldn't really ever have to do) . Bumping out happens once in a while but once you realize you've been talking to yourself, you just bump back in

One of the nice features of the 10R that was mentioned @oceans was the battery coming off. Slightly easier to charge in the house. It also lets you have a spare always charging. I can't speak to the bumping alot since I just installed mine. However if I did it after today I would have gone 10R just for the battery feature.

We run the 10r as well, I haven't used the other model so I cant comment there.
Yes the battery is detachable, but it charges through the main unit which is not detacheable. we only have two units so pairing is straightforward.

Does the 10r pair with the the 10D. Also does anyone have pictures of the 10r mounted @treebilly you had a ton of the old setup. I am upgrading helmets and would happily just put a new sena on when the upgrade takes place

Only pic I got but they must be the r's? the battery's detatch
S's and that pod that detaches is the battery and unit. If you mix them up and one isn't pared it will need to be pared. True, easier to charge as it pops right off the helmet. The R has the battery on a separate wire, not easy to remove, makes it more compact as the batt in my case is tucked inside the helmet.
As far as install, get industrial Velcro and route the wires wherever you want, pretty easy. Ear muffs, find the little gap for a flat screwdriver and pop off the cushion and install. It's all very easy really.

The best benefit of the external battery is ease of replacement if the battery starts to go bad. They are around 15 bucks or so for a new one. The way mine are installed the batteries don't come on and easily because the wires are tucked and velcroed to the inside of the helmets.

As @monkeylove said, the SMH 10 R is my preference. I've used the SMH 10 with a former crew, and still own a pair of them. The "R" is superior to me just for the fact that there's no Jog Wheel to bump and lose the group. Tapping back in can become more annoying than being without comm's in the first place. Never mind the compact profile and seperate battery. Just a nicer unit for our type of application, IMO.
