Sena communication

Been a while since this thread has been visited but one of my 10Ds went tits up so I have to replace it asap. I only have two so I will just buy a whole new set everyone still thinking 10Rs?

has anyone ever used the sonnetics head sets. I have and I will say they are amazing but holy smokes are they expensive as in $5400 for a set of 4. I am hoping you guys give me enough reasons to like the 10Rs to go with them vs spending that kind of cash. @DSMc would it be possible to see pictures of how you went about installing the batter pack into your different styles of helmets.

The battery has a case that I glued onto the helmet. The battery just snaps into that so it is removable. The main unit is held on by the supplied velcro. You don"t need to spend big bucks, these work well for the work we do.

That’s what I think too @DSMc the only thing holding me up is in Wyoming there is a state grant I could get away with only paying 10% of that 5k bill. I will research more tomorrow. Thanks for input friend I will certainly take it into consideration. Did you notice a big difference when you went to the 10Rs? What things are different? Do they have less trouble with connectivity? Battery and firmware troubles better?

As far as I know, the Rs are electronically the same as their larger counterparts. They are just more compact and so better protected from getting knocked off or disconnected.
I will be interested in what you decide on. Are the Sonetics really that much better?

I have a question about the Sena system:
When your fully equipped and up in the tree is there a wire anywhere? Like running down your back, or is it all condensed into that lil gizmo on the back of the hard hat?

My wires are all in back, and barely exposed. Have yet to catch one on a limb. My battery holster is on the flip-wratchet thingy that clamps the protos to my head. The comm unit is on the back right side where the wire will not tangle with the ear muff. The worst wire is the one on the battery, which has to be loose enough to unclip my helmet. Creates ~1/2-1" of slack. Since it's at the very back, I don't have trouble with it. Worst thing about the senas is the crane op headset. The mic easily comes unplugged from the set. I was looking at my (very complicated) menu instructions while the crane was on the clock, and that wasn't even the problem, lol.

Here's a picture of my SENA install:

I have a few of the Petzl helmets that are only 1 year old. They are still in great shape.

Is there a significant advantage to going with those super cool Protos, or stick with the Petzl till they are done?

I’m looking to buy the Senas, & I am not sure which to go with..
