Seeing the forest through the trees…

Good morning,

I don’t know about you, but sometimes I can’t see what I need to while in the canopy. Perhaps it’s adjusting the settings on a mechanical device, removing a splinter, or….wait for it…..reading a text or email.

I purchased a pair of these that I tuck in my bandage kit. They work great. Surprisingly durable. I went to the 2.5X.

My safety glasses have 'cheater' bifocal lenses in them. The last time I bought them they were less than $10/pair. My everyday cheaters come from the buck and a quarter store.

The ones you linked are nice and compact.

About this time next month my distance vision will be 20-20 again in both eyes. My right eye is there now, in my left eye I am legally blind due to a cataract. Sucks to get old when your mind is still 30. My left eye vision is like opening your eyes under water without goggles. I have noticed my depth perception has suffered a bit.

I've adjusted to where I can see long distances clearly even when looking through reading glasses.
Don't DO THAT. Is that a current pic of you? You look waaaay young to need 2.0 reading glasses. But eff that, if you do, fine, but don't start using magnification to see distance if you don't need it!! I'm no optham but doesn't that contribute to worsening vision? I have a few sets of safety glasses that have reading mag (1.5? 2.0?) 'bifocals' in the bottom. They're great, but last time I tried to order they no longer made them. I was like, WTF?

EDIT: I had no idea what picture you were talking about, but now I realize you mean the one in my logo. No, that is the actor from the TV show "The Rookie", Nathan Fillion. The funny thing is that we look a little alike. He's like my handsome nephew. :)

I'm 60, with lots of German and Native roots. Common to have eagle eyes long distance and presbyopia at 45. Somehow I can see at distance with or without the glasses. So I leave them on in the tree, but I don't wear them riding dirt bikes or mountain biking. :)

I'm getting an evaluation of my cataracts next month. Mine aren't that bad, but noticeable. My prescription is -7.5 diopters, so even without the cataracts my vision sucks. What I've found is that the super near-sightedness is actually helpful for closeup work like splicing detail. I'm a little reluctant to lose that ability to get perfect distance vision. It's definitely something my Dr. and I are going to discuss.
