I was jumping up onto the truck to climb into the bucket. I had the boom rotated about 180 degrees with the bucket on the chip box. The latch that holds the upper boom down was positioned right above the ladder and bam knocked myself simple when I jumped up. Knocked my cheap safety glassed down onto the bridge of my nose and suffered whiplash like symptoms .
First off- now I have a good reason to fold and stow the boom when climbing in and out.
Second- I try to have a policy of never leaving any thing in a position where you could'nt jump in and drive away- that's not to say that you should neglect the circle of safety.
But when I catch myself leaving a saw on the chipper for instance I think "what would happen if I forgot that".
So anyway back to my hard hat- If I wouldn't have had it on I would have surely split my skull.
Lately I try to strap it on before I get out of the truck. Not only is it safer but it makes you look like an authority.

Possibly compromised the shell. Gel coat has cracked a little and exposed some of the kevlar. Personally I don't think it is ruined but I will seek others input.
I don't know that I would call it a success story since I clocked myself pretty good.

That's a good policy!

that's the thing about safety gear, it won't prevent accidents just mitigate the injury. That makes it a success story!

Did you get checked out anyway? Learn a lesson from the death of Natasha Richardson.

Be safe!

i wear my brain bucket all the time. not so much for hitting my head in the tree, but i can hit my head five times getting out of the truck and setting up the chipper chute! glad your ok, but sounds like the helmet is probably void.

be safe
