From the Samson website for Ice Tail. I've been using HRC or therma shield from New England. I'm just wondering if anyone can verify Samson's claim that Ice doesn't scorch or burn. Or if anyone can compare it to Bail Out or HRC? Comments?
Thanks.

It has a pretty nice feel to it. Hrc in my opinion fluffs a bit but not bad stuff. The icetail will not scorch or burn as far as I've experienced. It needs to be spliced with a full bury in my opinion otherwise it flattens out quite a bit and will bite a little hard.

I've never seen any sign of scorching. It gets dirty and ratty-looking in short order, but the rope still seems to be in perfect shape.

been climbing on it for months and love it. used to use bailout, now dont even know where my bail out is. does not scortch or burn, just wears down from friction, but no heat damage at all. love it.

I climbed on HRC for a while (more than a few months), and recently switched to Ice Tail. I like it in combination with tachyon. I like how soft the ice tail is getting, the only thing that seems to mar it is dirt.

It does get somewhat ragged looking (ice tail) and the full bury is a must- or you get that nasty flat spot. It does break in well. I still find the HRC to be superior IMO.

I agree with ya there keith. Hrc is the place to be. I just wish they made a 10mm version so I could get more of a handful while doing long descents. Also, if your cordage is shorter in size it seems to cinch up while climbing on a pulley

been on Ice for over a year. I loove it. I have tried beeline and HRC. HRC binds up too much for me, and is too thin.

Ice has a nice round feel and although it look like rubbish after a week or two, it still works great!

I tried Ice Tail and really don't like it. I switched to 10MM Bee Line and it runs much better.

Some like this...........some like that. Nothing wrong with variety!!!

Hey Marc, there is a 10 mm size. It is a little stiffer though and that makes it more sensitive to having to be tied carefully to hold right.

Hey mark, does it feel and flex kinda like bail out or ocean polyester? I have a couple of ocean polyester lines, and they are ridiculously abrasion and heat resistant but I've been having a hard time keeping the vt knot tight and I always have to check the knot more because it doesn't always cinch up right away. That's why I like Hrc because I never have cinching problems except that on longer ascents it has a tendency to tighten up too much

Hey Marc (familytree),

Keep experimenting with the OP! I use 90cm lengths. When my climbing lines (Tachyon or PI) and OP are new, a 4/3 Valdotain seems to work best. As they wear, I switch to a 4/3 V.t. or X.t. with the the third tresse as the "x".

Hey TL, ill take pics of what ive got going on tomorrow, i love op line, its indestructable, a bit steep in price when going through sherrill (up to 10 bucks per foot!!!) hopefully i can remedy some of my problems with a third helix or possibly just a single helix with more raps, tomorrow isnt looking to bad as far as climbs go so ill have some time to mess around with different set ups. the past couple weeks have been monster take downs/hazard removals with somewhat high winds so i didnt have much of an urge to try anything "new". heck, i didnt have much of an urge to climb for that matter, nothing worse than climbing in the cold rain with hollow trunks and split crowns

I used the ice eye to eye twice. Once on the yellow jacket climbing rope. Got about a year out of it but with only minimal climbing because of extensive bucket use. In june I opened a new ice eye to eye and used it with the fly rope. Complete junk. The ice glazed fairly quickly. After two months I changed over to the beeline and haven't been happier. For me the beeline is the eye to eye of choice.

Cuttenwolf- what do you mean that the ice "glazed?" It is physically impossible for the fibers to melt to each other. Do you still have the sling? If you flex it and scratch it with your fingernail, you might find that it was just dirt/tree gunk getting caked into the fibers.

love

gave the op slings another run today, even busted out my ice tail

op sling is the way to go, i tightened up my vt and had no problems, it was dumb luck though, hopefully ill be able to replicate what i did today again. i tried using my ice tail and it was a no go, wouldnt even pretend to cinch, but it does make for a great 3 wrap prussik for online attachment of pulleys on my 1/2 lines, its now offically my 5:1 prussik
