I agree, I think the weight, slow or fast will be similar, but the movement when the rope is weighted is the critical issue. It hits that cam with more force if there is lateral movement because the speed at which the foot is moving. This is the factor that causes a more slip when feet are flying.Nice job. Quite the effort building your own ascender too.
One thing you mentioned in the video is that folks that climb fast (very fast?) can cause slippage due to the rope tension from the foot ascender. Speed and the magnitude of the tension don't seem closely related as I would think most of the tension is the result of the climbers weight. What is your thinking there?
Remember that what that asender feels is a tension line, it has the entire weight of the climber plus whatever force he is applying in the ascent.Great video of a great device! Richard have you thought of a possible fair lead into the ascender to help with the slippage?
