Saddles: Bare Naked or Mr. Bo-Jangles

[ QUOTE ]

You asked what was on my saddle...not if I carried a whistle :)

[/ QUOTE ]

I know, I just assumed most people would carry the whistle on there saddle. But I guess I know what happens when you assume...

I really like the way you have that set-up. It seems like it would be out of the way but available for use is seconds. Something like that could be the difference between life and death in the event of an emergency.

If you search for "badge reels" on google you'll find many varietys.

Is there enough interest in them to get a batch made up with the TB logo and a Fox Forty whistle?

Someone told me that they've seen a cigarette lighter lanyard that works in the same way.

Let me see if I have any more of the small, clear TB logos.

Friends of mine make vinyl lettering for signs so they do my helmets when I need them. I spent 9/11 at their house taking down some spruces.

The one, minor, concern that I have with my helmet mount is if I ever had something hit my head, what would happen with the badge reel...? It is stuck on with the double-faced foam tape so it would tear off though.

Jumar ascender

[/ QUOTE ]

Hold on Blinky, did you say Jumar ascender.....the big awesome yellow one, the best ascender in the world!

Mine were stolen 4 years ago on a job, think it was another climber, took me months to save for them!

I loved those ascenders

[/ QUOTE ]

Yep, the big yellow ones, I just use the right hand one, stole it about 4 years`ago from some chump on a tree job!

Not really, it's from my rock climbing days, never used them for much before except hauling packs up cliffs. I'm giving thought to ditching the Pantin and going with two Jumars for rope ascents... I keep kicking the Pantin off the rope, very annoying.

I love'em too. Good, solid ascenders for most any rope size, wet, dry, caked with ice, whatever. You a rock-ape too?

Handsaw- silky zubat is my first choice lately I have been using a samurai and I like it very much especialy the price.

CMI mickey mouse pulley, eye and eye B-line split tail, an extra setup for double crotching, and a couple extra binners and a pulley just in case.

False crotch if not installed from the ground. Sometimes an extra false crotch if I think I may need it.

A couple of slings and binners dedicated to lowering.

I would definitly take one. Be willing to send a few bucks for one even.

I usually keep just a flipline, handsaw, footlock prussik, and chainsaw bungee lanyard on my saddles. The one I use for removals has a blood stopper bandage and maybe a biner. My prunning saddle probably has a redirect setup as an extra feature.

...Are you a bare minimum guy?...

[/ QUOTE ]

I am bare minimum type of guy. If I see a tree which will be a challenge, then I add on redirects, slings, biners, etc...

Why carry so much stuff on simple climbs? It seems like too much weight and over kill with preparation. Lots of stuff attached to you may not always be practical.

A groundie can pass you something if you need it.

Nick how do you go about attaching your multi-tool to your saddle? I have needed to bring up my leathermen on multi occasions but haven't found a comfortable way of attaching it to my saddle. Now I just tie it to a webbing strap and it flails about on my saddle.

[/ QUOTE ]

Did we get an answer on this one?

I'm afraid to take my leatherman up the tree on my saddle as A - it might fall out the holster with the velcro tab

or B - if it is just attached by a piece of string it will get caught up in branches or open accidently.

Anyone have any ideas apart from 'put it in your pocket'

It is an excellent tool to have in the tree.

Help please.

Buy a pair of Arborwear tech pants, then put your leatherman in one of the cargo pockets, easily accessible below your saddle. The $75 solution!!

i have a petzl knife on a krab, the spatha ones that fols=d with teh hole. not the best knife but they were £12 and when needed i'm sure they will suffice.

Jamie, the pliers on the leatherman have been very useful when trying to open the bolt on the rigging block in cold weather or when it gets jammed.

Bermie, I wear chainsaw pants, so Arborwear are no good, thanks for the suggestion anyway.

How can we fix a leatherman to a harness so that it wont open accidently, or fall out of its holster.

What about an elastic band round the velcro tab on the belt holster......nah too weak and sh*tty.

Help please
