saddle vs harness

Maybe this has already been discussed to death, but a search of this subject didn't turn up a good answer. What is the difference (if any) between a saddle and a harness? Is the harness a saddle with upper body straps? Thanks (again), if this is the millionth time around.

A saddle is a North American name for a European tree climbing harness.

A harness is a European name for a North American tree climbing saddle.

Hope this helps you

For me I use the terms interchangibly. But, if I were to be proper, I think harness would be the most appropriate word for our context. A saddle is what cowboys use on a horse.

Saddle is a harness worn by treeworkers.

When I rock climb, it's a harness. When I work on Challenge courses, it's a harness.

When I'm around tree folk, it's a saddle.

Ah. Yes. Now it's all clear. I suppose it really doesn't matter, does it? Thanks for your input. I guess I'll go saddle up in my harness and climb some trees! :)
