Saddle Gear

What's up everyone? I was wondering what rigging equipment/straps, etc.. all you climbers bring up with your saddle.

I'm looking for ideas on extra tools to carry with me besides a petzl pulley and carabiners, with a strap.

I look forward to reading your thoughts.

Depends on the climb. Over large prunes I may bring stuff for a redirect. If I'm over a house or something I may bring a longer loop runner that I don't use for life support, as a handle to hold on to a branch I may not be able to hold on to in an odd position.

May bring stuff for a midline attachable and retrievable canopy anchor.

My fly bare minimum if the tree is wooly and I don't need anything other than a handsaw or chainsaw.

May bring a spare biner or two, pulley and maybe e2e if I'm not feeling a blakes, for a double tie in.

I always let the tree and tasks dictate what I may bring.

Back to your original post, rarely climb with rigging equipment. Almost always easier to do what I need to do to get to where I need to be and have it sent to me when needed and back when not.

I climb with the eye to eye. I don't have any fancy redirect tools or equipment, I simply just make due with my tie in and pull it back through and re-tie if necessary.
Wouldn't know what to purchase in that sense.
I haven't used a midline or canopy anchor.
Weekdays I am line clearance, I recently started my own side business doing a lot of removals/trimming, so I am trying to find things to make my job easier in that sense, as well as being slightly new to the new tech gear.

Welcome to the Buzz! I climb bare minimum. I do mostly removals. I always carry a steel biner, an alum. auto locking biner, a revolver biner, and a biner that's married to my fig. 8. I use the revolver for haul backs. Sometimes I carry my silky also, but I usually leave the grounded also. Depends on the tree. Depends on if I'm workin' solo too. Then I bring everything.

Welcome to the buzz, where are you located I am only asking because there is a newcastle wyoming didn't know if you were just up the the road. I never leave the ground without a quickie or screw link so many uses. A spare hit cord and hitch climber setup is always something I think about if it is a large tree. A revolver is a bonus to have again if its a big tree and a saw change may be needed. The options are limitless and totally dependent on what you use and size of the tree.

No not wyoming, PA. Although I'd love to live in Wyoming.
I have not a clue what a revolver is or its uses. YouTube time I suppose.
What are you referring to as a quickie?
I don't leave the ground without at least 2 biners, (prussik set up) hand saw, saw.
That is bare minimum.
On the job I butt hitch leads down, but I have been looking into more advanced tools for my side business.
So for it, I have a petzl mini pulley, and an endless, which I think is called a loopie.
(I haven't caught up on all the craze words or followed forums so I'm still a little new to the lingo.)

Revolver and quickie could both be explained much better by a quick trip over to treestuff and enter both into the search function.
OK excuse my ignorance. I am going to assume the revolver, which looks like a carabiner.. and quickie are for non spiking climbers?
Honestly, for as long as I have been doing this, I have never used a redirect. I always just made due and really set my rope if needed.
I am all ears and not afraid to purchase something that works on my single rope prussik system.

I've been climbing a little over 15yrs and I don't practice SRT on the job where production is important. I'm new to it so your ahead of me there. I'm still climbing DdRT.
I understand the principles and equipment used though. A quicky is when your girl .... just kiddin'!
It's basically a shackle with a quick release pin. Used on your climbing line for the redirect.

I have a ditty bag with 100' long, 1/4" polyester rope in it... small, wire-gate carabiner spliced onto each end. Haul line. I keep a small pulley in the bag with it. Whenever I think that I might be forgetting something I'm going to need, and I have a helper/groundie, I take that up with me. Working solo, I fill a rope bag with the stuff I think I'm likely to need, and just haul the whole bag up, hang it on a limb nearby, and try to remember to use the haul line to move it to me when I change locations in the tree.

If you need to travel light (bare minimum) in the tree, this is the easiest way I've found to still have access to a lot of rigging gear.

I find srt much faster. Spike up, with the Prussik system, throw around crotch, tie in come down. Simple.
In line clearance production is life.
I personally have never looked into anything else. With my company I've started on the side, and the money coming out of my pocket I want to see if I can become more proficient, tech saavy, and better with TB help.

I have never used a haul line, always my climb line and rigging line that's it. These are the things I came here for. To learn from the ones that are far more advanced than i.
I must sound so slow and green haha.
I'm actually quite good but want to be better

Do you understand the difference between SRT (stationary or single rope technique) and DdRT (doubled rope technique)?

I am just confused by some of your posts:

Yes, single rope climbing. Using the Prussik just as a blakes.

My understanding is that SRT isn't something that is generally taught at line clearance companies.
Tell me if I am wrong.

I'm sure you're not slow at all. I don't use a haul line either, every climber has his own techniques and preferences. I carry a throw bag on my saddle and in most trees here, a long lanyard. I climb srt with the Hitch Hiker and use the long lanyard as a second climb line and the throw bag clipped onto it makes changing tie in points and moving around in the tree much easier for me.
I know rings are the "in" thing right now but I really like the ISC Mini rigging block and carry it many times along with a 1/2" tenex loopie for light to medium rigging. Being mid-line attachable is a time saver for me.
