The Hummingbird can be ordered from http://www.treeworker.co.uk/ or http://www.treesunlimited.co.uk/CATALOGUE/CATALOGUEPPE.htm
I've been climbing in this saddle for a few months now and I really like it, although I don't know anywhere else it can be ordered from but the UK. At least as of May 2006

I think I'm right in saying Johannes Billhartz's had a hand in the design, of 'Freeworker' in Germany:

Although the bridge looks different?

Perhaps Nod can shine some light.

Hi Paolo

The design changed from the original, which had a 12mm dyneema stitched webbing for the bridge. It is now made with an exchangable piece made from 43mm webbing as per the image at Freeworkers website. The manufacturing company EKN has been taken over by a larger outfit but keeps the same employees.

Earlier this year we experienced a manufacturing problem with the belt buckle. They had changed it for a cheaper Asian manufactured buckle which was miserably inept & could come unclipped without warning. These were very quickly replaced with the original buckle & all is again well. It is a popular harness, if my sales are anything to go by but in my opinion still falls a little short of those harnesses that are now in the production pipeline.

Best wishes

Very informative. Thanks Nod.

Cheaper parts and labour are an obvious temptation. With occassional drawbacks. We're not keen on that route for many reasons with our products, although it would probaby result in a much more affordable product.

We're trying to think global, and act relatively local.(thought you might like that

).

The strength of the pound just means British manufacture is a little more expensive when exported (shoulder shrug). But at least I don't have to fly to the east or worry about interpretation; which should mean a quality product. Quality counts when you're dealing with something as crucial to safety and comfort as a harness.

Glad that EKN sorted the buckle out. It feels a quality harness.
